It was moving on time again and today we were going to make for an island right on the very edge of the Åland archipelago, an island called Katanpää and situated inside the Turku archipelago. The two archipelagos are divided by a deep (for around here) channel of water called the Skittet and between the two they form an almost solid land bridge between Finland and Sweden, there is only 20 miles or so from the westernmost large ...

After a good night's sleep we looked forward to a day of not doing very much. In other words, this entry will be short! It was a sticky, muggy day and indeed we did have a few drops of rain. ... handled) motor boats, the owners of both were very pleasant Finns. Later that evening we had one of them, a single hander called Acki or something like that on board for coffee and a nightcap and spent a pleasant hour with him. He gave us a couple of recommendations for spots to stay in en route to the Ålands and also reiterated that Rauma wasn’t really worth the effort. With that, we went to bed, planning on going to Uusikapunki (Nystad in Swedish) tomorrow ...

Woke late and had brekkie on the sunny front patio, with strawberries picked from the garden. Before lunch, cycled again. Round trip about 6 km to the lunch venue overlooking the sea. Beautiful hot sunny day. Then we said "Goodbye" to Johanna and drove to Naantali, site of the President of Finland's summer castle on a nearby island. Also home of the Moomins, Finland's equivalent to the Gum Nut Babies for kids, Kailo island. Great, very expensive camp ...
