... and there was no such thing as a “safety barricade”. Rather, we were met with a 15m steel cross that was the site of many religious pilgrimages, including that of a group of 20-somethings that had been right behind us for the final ascent and made sure to stop for a mandatory selfie and a prayer once they reached the top. So even if you hadn’t found God yet, there was no better opportunity than now!

They also built larger gas chambers and crematoriums here but these were destroyed by the Germans before they left.
