Good Value for Money
Just returned from Cancun May 25, 2003. My girlfriend and I went to celebrate her 50th. We are both young at heart and always have a great time when we go away. Aquamarina Beach Hotel was on a special deal from Montreal so we selected it. It is a moderate hotel, nothing fancy but clean and the grounds are well groomed. The staff is fantastic and go out of their way to make everyone feel special. My friend and I especially adored the bartender at the beach bar. His name is ISMAIL and I nicknamed his "IZZY". Please tell him that Nicki and Juanita miss him and ask for his special drink called the "IZZY". The beach is not that great because of the marina but hop on a bus (which run every 4 minutes 24 hours a day) and take a 5 minute ride to any other hotel and the beach is fantastic. Big waves and blue blue water. Lots to do at night in the party zone (7 minute bus ride). Food is not that great but the booze is good. Have fun. Also a fun thing to do is to take the catamaran in front of hotel for the day over the an island which includes drinks, lunch, snorkelling, etc. It is so much fun for $40 US NIKI
What a Deal!
My friends and I got an incredible package deal to the Aquamarina and stayed there April 30-May 7. For the price, I was kind of expecting a dive. We were pleasantly surprised. I got a room on the 6th floor with a view of the pool area and beach. It was great - we had 2 queen beds, a desk, and a kitchen area with a stove, large counter and cabinets (no fridge). The other room was on the 1st floor - not quite as nice as the one I got - no view, and smaller - but still good. The staff at Aquamarina was very nice. The bartenders were always ready to give you a refill. I preferred the food in the buffet restaurant, but the waiters were soooo helpful at the other one. You could always get a snack in the afternoon by the pool. The ocean at this hotel is not as gorgeous as that found further down the hotel strip, but it was still pretty. We were always dashing off for one excursion or another and only spent a couple of days just hanging out. There were way more topless women laying out on our beach than other places we visited in Cancun and Isla (not that we were looking). We met lots of Europeans here. Unfortunately, there are lots of cigarette smokers on vacation in Cancun (we get spoiled in California). All in all it was a great trip, and I would stay here again.
I was in Cancun for the 3rd time March 10, 2003. Aquamarina was such a great party. The staff was wonderful making all the guests feel the excitement Cancun has to offer. The price was great. My first visit to Cancun was to Club Las Vellas and this resort is very upscale but not much fun for a great party Aquamarina was a perfect choice. The food could have been better but it didn't make a difference this resort makes up for it on fun.
Aquamarina staff rocks
I went to Cancun for the week of January 19,2003, it was my second time in Cancun, the first time we stayed at the Blue Bay Getaway and it was absolutely awesome so much to do and so much entertainment that I wanted to go back there again, but we ended up going to Aquamarina hotel because it was a little more affordable. My first impression wasn't really good I thought it was very small, but as the week went by we had the best time of our lives. The staff was absolutely great they were the ones that made my stay very fun and comfortable. The staff at the front desk were great, specially for Juan who was extremely helpful. And the enterteinment team were the best they were very fun people and the shows were great, specially for the 2 girls Erika and Fabiola they were so entertaining and great, they were pretty friendly and they had great ideas for the entertainment and they did just great, I think those two girls deserve thumbs up. Keep up the good job because I would definetely come back to Aquamariana.
I'll be honest - it was my friend's first trip, we wanted to go somewhere a little nicer than Puerta Vallarta, and we are students. Translation: We were looking at something on the lower end of the all-inclusive spectrum in Cancun. With this in mind, we chose Aquamarina because it seemed to be the best value - and it was.We went expecting to get something on par with what we paid (not so great food, meager entertainment, and from some of the reviews here, maybe not the nicest or most helpful staff). We had our expectations met and far more than exceeded. We found our room to be quite nice (and clean), and all of them overlook the pool/ocean, so you couldn't go wrong. We headed down to look around, and watched the ensuing beach volleyball match - which the entertainment coordinator, Jesus, was quick to invite us to and was not pushy at all. A quick walk along the beach showed that we didn't have the nicest beach, but we knew that coming in. And to compensate, the hotel has free shuttles to a VERY nice beach three days a week with huge waves, clear water, and perfect sand (about 15 mins away). The food was nothing to write home about, in particular the breakfast, but it was fine for the most part. They generally mixed it up a bit so you didn't get sick of the same thing, and a la carte was available everynight if you made a reservation, so no complaints. I heard a lot of complaints about the size of the hotel lounge, but it's quite an open area, and does get pretty full of people - but this is a good thing! You mingle, it feels very cozy, and everyone is close. This is probably one of the biggest reasons I'd go to Aquamarina instead of another hotel: the size was enough that you could keep your distance if you wanted or on the other hand get to know many of the visitors very well. It was a very close-knit hotel. Location wise, it is across the street from La Boom club and close to Fat Tuesday's and Carlos & Charlie's, close to downtown, and not all that far from some of the bigger clubs further down the seven. Finally, the highlight of the hotel: the staff. They were all very friendly (except for the incredibly rude staff at the money exchange who refused on two separate occasions to cash my traveller's cheques for absolutely no reason). The bar staff made jokes and remembered most people if they took even the remotest interest in talking to them. The front desk staff spoke very good English (as did everyone) and was helpful, the maids and security were nice, and so on. The entertainment staff deserves a paragraph for themselves, though. They were about as good as it gets in every way. They were always happy, upbeat, joking, and getting people involved without being pushy or anything. They made the nightly entertainment entertaining and worth watching (and even participating in). Jesus, Erika, and Fabiola, well, I just can't say enough good things about them.Long story short, we had a good time, there was a good mix of people (though a few more older than I expected) but still lots of young people. Would I stay there again? You bet! And if I didn't, I'd probably still go back just to visit the staff that we got to know on the trip.
Met Leon Phelps, The Ladies Man!
Arrived at Aquamarina on Feb. 8/03 at 11:00pm which sucked but it only got better from there. The staff there was great. Encourage everyone to participate but they won't hassle you if you don't want to play. Water Volleyball is a must. Water Basketball is lots of fun but tiring. Entertainment at night was acceptable, TEQUILA karoke was a blast. The best thing about the trip was meeting alot of great people from all over the world. Brits, Chile, Canadains, Americans, etc. But, when I went, I met 12 great people which I basically spent my whole trip with. It was great. We had rented a private Sail boat for the day, ITS A MUST, went snorkling plus all you can drink and eat. Held a SHARK and saw some turles. Ok, maybe too many turtles, but it was good. It was quite the ride, the sailboat may not look like much but its a great ride. You can sign up for it, right outside on the Aquamarina beach. Food was alright but there is a great steakhouse across the street which you should try one night. Amazing food. Partying is just across the street away, with LA BOOM. When the hotel goes there, make sure you go, its a blast. Don't get caught sleeping on the beach because they have security which will kick you back to your room, found out the hard way. Why I was sleeping there, LONG STORY. Besides that, it was a great time. Had a blast and would do it again but for two weeks. Take a stroll down to the other beaches, and make sure you check out the Blue Bay Getaway. A mix of ages, and the pool bar is great. Bartenders are great and the drinks go down quick. As for the LEON PHELPS, all I have to say is SMOOTH LIKE BUTTER!!Aquamarina, thumbs up. It was my first time to Cancun and if you're a first timer, great place to start. Second or third timers, look into BLUE BAY GETAWAY, I know I will. Too my friends who may read this from Castlegar, Prince George, somewhere in Ontario, Toronto and the two lovely ladies from Victoria. CHEERS!! and TEQUILA!
Aquamarina was far from acceptable
Jan 2003. The food was very poor, only one item per night was edible. Many guests double dipped with their own utensils. No no-smoking area. All food seemed fried and full of butter. Buffet areas always short of help and facilities - no cups, no coffee, no serving utensils, no cream for tea/coffee. Deserts were mainly white cake with different color icing. Food preparation or in particular serving practices would quickly get them shut down in Canada. Free bar area very small would handle maybe 15 people. Entertainment always WAY too loud and in your face. At times no place to escape from it.
The hotel was horrible, the people who worked there were extremely rude. The room that we got was filthy and the hotel said that there was nothing they could do about it. My husband and I were disgusted with the hotel and service. We will never stay there again (EVER)
Aquamarina all-inclusive was great value
We stayed 5 days in 09/02 & loved it! We were upgraded to a jr.suite w/fridge & kitchenette. Had a fabulous view of the Caribbean. The beachfront was very good, better than the resorts neighbouring us. Staff was always friendly & quick to serve. The clientelle was mostly British w/some Mexicans from Merida. The pool facilities are well kept w/24 hr security. The buffet tended to be predomintly Mexican, even at breakfast. We never saw a piece of bacon the whole stay. However, they did make great chicken wings & hamburgers & the desserts were excellent. The best dinners were at the cabana restaurant on the beach & these required reservations but were still free. Yes, the drinks are watered down, but the way the Brits were going at it, that was a good thing. The entertainment was lousey. The only bright spot was the Aquamarina dance group. They performed regional & Mayan dances in full costume. It made for some great pictures. Definitely, we would book there again.
Best Xmas Vacation
As a xmas gift to my husband and son I took them to Cancun for Xmas. We spent eleven days in Cancun at the Aquamarina. The room was very nice and comfortable. We had an ocean view. The hotel staff was very helpful and pleasant. The best thing about the Aquamarina was the food. The whole kitchen staff was wonderful and the taste of the food was out of this world. Edgardo, the head chef talked with us everyday and even made special salsa for my son who likes really hot and spicy food. I enjoyed our vacation so much I did not want to come home. When we go back to Cancun you can bet we will stay at the Aquamarina again. They really know how to welcome and treat their guests.
