Viciously Attacked by a Clownfish

... come in all colors too. The most familiar is the color of “Nemo” from the Walt Disney movie but the most vicious is the dark red ones. They also come in a pale crème and almost every color in between as well.

This particular clownfish was most definitely annoyed that I was stopped and hovering over his anemone. I saw a couple of little guys hiding in the anemone. Of course then I had ...

Misadventures of Russ

... killing quite a few people. It was also overcrowded but since then the Coast Guard has been forcing them to follow the regulations on passenger capacity; in the past, they put as many people on a ferry that they could to save on gas. They also now keep them from running in rough seas. So no problems, if it's too rough they won't allow us to go.

I had planned on going up to ask about the conditions and get my ticket ...

My travel stay

... The resort, Deep Blue Sea Inn, was a bit of a surprise. The German owner was at the end of a 25 year lease and was leaving. Removing furniture and mattresses from the rooms. They left our room untouched. We had a few days at the resort with no management, clean towels and toilet paper. The new management was great but had limited supplies, a bit like camping but we survived.

CO-OPERATION WITHIN 2 CULTURES

... in their country. After our briefing we had some opening remarks and Karen facilitated our breakout discussions. This is not an easy task. We are in a meeting room that is comfortably holding us all but there is no room for breakout sessions. The room is next door to our guesthouse compound so we walk over there and use our sitting rooms as breakout rooms. Thursday afternoon was our first breakout session as the Filipinos had ...

W@W PHILIPPINES!

Jeff and I have just returned from a short hiatus in the Philipines of a little less than two weeks. Although the purpose of our trip was quite sombre, we found lots of was to enjoy ourselves in the meantime. It was scorching hot over in Manila, and the humidity made it feel like being inside a steamer. But ...

Tagaytay and Batangas

... on the top of the mountain. From tagaytay we could see batangas. We had some special sup and pancit malabon, while having a great view. We then continued onto Batangas as we passed through a number of small towns. We saw someone selling live chickens on the side of the road. That was pretty funny. We arrived at Batangas around late afternoon and went to one of Gianni's guest homes. Here we picked up the ...

Only one beer starts true Philippino friendships.

... in the rain, we would go see them at sunrise the next morning. Retiring to the hotel for the evening, I was comforted by many bottles of San Miguel beer, only to notice their slogan in the Philippines: "The only beer that starts true Filipino friendships.". Always open to make more friends, the three Swiss, Jean-Michel and I settled into a 'slight' drinking binge. Basically, all I remember is the Filipino who works at the front desk got out her guitar, and began to play Elton ...

Day 3: Descent from Mt. Apo

... ahead. It was true. In the darkness, with only our headlamps and flashlights to illuminate our paths, we made about six ascents on rough roads before we reached the town where our truck was waiting. Overall, it took us about 12 hours to make a complete descent of the mountain that day. We were hungry, tired and smelly, but what the heck! We just climbed Mt. Apo. More Mt.
