The hotel was right on the beach and my room had a ninety degree view of the ocean and it was wonderful to be able to hear the waves break onto the shore and smell the lovely salty air again. The taxi driver assured me that crime was non-existent and it was safe to walk around at any time of the day and night on my own. I certainly took advantage of that and enjoyed my evening walks along the beach pathways before and after ...

Getting to Koycegiz was a bit of a logistical nightmare, (I think from Selcuk - it was three buses!!) but I got there in the end. I stayed in a guesthouse that was recommended to me from the guys I stayed with in Selcuk and it paled in comparision - but possibly because I was only one of two people staying there. I was really overdue my holidays, finally getting to take it in October and I just signed up to two weeks of not doing much in Turkey with a couple of friends in a group. For me though not doing much isn't my cup of tea so I took every chance to re-live my old Turkey memories, from food, sights, sea, dancing and ahem, yes the men, again :)

Another beautiful day. Sunny 78 degrees on the island of Rhodes. We travel to Lindos half way down the island. To see the Acropolis were Paul spoke to the Greeks. A long climb to the top with a view to forever. Just outstanding. Back to the boat early to catch some sun by the pool.

I am going to upload a couple of pics from yesterday on Myconos to give you an idea of the beauty here.

... all we could of the castle, we ventured outside the walls to go check out some ancient ruins. On the map, there was a big green park with some old ruins labeled, and it didn't look too far away. What the map didn't show was that it was uphill, hard to find, and when we got there it wasn't a park at all, but just an ancient stadium and some old columns surrounded by ...

... a magnificent bronze statue of Helios, a Greek God. It was one of the seven wonders of the Ancient world. The statue only stood for 56 years before an earthquake destroyed it in 226BC.

The medieval town of Rhodes has now been declared a world heritage site. And no wonder with its winding old lanes, ancient defensive walls and its beautiful clear sky and water. We couldn't have afforded a night here but we sure are glad we got to spend a day in this touristy little town.
