This morning, we drove northeast to the town of Petra where Father Junipero Serra was born and raised. Like all the other towns on Mallorca, Petra is clean and lovely. The area surrounding Petra is beautiful agricultural land, with many orchards and beautiful fields. Then, it was time to head to the airport and leave Mallorca for Mallaga in the Costa del Sol. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and hope to return one ...

... music playing at 11 am and doesn't end until 12 pm. The general population within the hotel and Magalluf in general were highly intoxicated, extremely dirty looking British and Irish people. We joked about the fact that we were coming into the weekend thinking it was going to be super relaxed and instead we were confronted by this. It was still really fun regardless. ... that was how you separated the cruise passengers from the locals. The crew on these ships work so hard. The waiters, kitchen staff and the cabin stewards all work on the ships to support their families back in Asian, North African or Central American countries. Our cabin steward told us he starts work at 5.30am, and finishes at 12.30am. They are contracted for the cruise season for 9 months, and they only occasionally, very occasionally, get a half day off. ... all artisanal bread and homemade everything. Special mention has to be made of the toiletries...not something IŽd usually get excited about, but this was all handmade in the Balearics by Gaia products....smell of rosemary.Now my very favourite.
Our nearest tourist town was Cala En Porter...so we walked there. No great shakes, surprisingly downmarket given the hotel, bit scruffy, like Cala St Vicenc or Cala Bona. Mahon and Ciutadella were nicer, mix of ...

... tasty local cheeses, jamon (ham), bread, olives and wine. Sonja and Roberto cooked some great meals and it was nice just to sit together and all six of us enjoy each others company. One evening we ate at the Casablanca Hotel just down the road from us.
