... the water came up to that level in June 2013. The guide told us that they do not live at ground level. Really only at the second floor level. ... returning by a different route to our boat after it had moored in Linz, Austria. Our morning bus trip took us through beautiful Bohemian forest and farmland. Apparently the word, bohemian, means 'forest people' a name given to those who lived in the area in Roman times. ... by mid afternoon, dressed in typical Bavarian costume. Yesterday, when we were in Regensburg, was Wednesday 13 th May, the day before Ascension Day, which is a public holiday in Germany. I think the young ones were about to visit the beer halls and wine bars, no doubt to celebrate the night away. Good luck to them!

    ... just choose what you want from the breakfast buffet (there's always cold meats, cheese, cucumber etc, and bread rolls, pastries, fruit, muesli bars. Plus you can always buy things along the way if you need to. We found our bikes and got on our way. We were some of the first to leave. We cycled with a few Americans who were lovely. Ken, Barb and Kerin. Seasoned cyclists though. My bike seat isn't great. ...

    Sunday May 10th
    We're on the train between Linzt and Passau. Unspeakably early start to get the 5.33am train. No brekkie, no dining car, just an old man selling instant coffee from a cart. Snoozing, observing the countryside and the economic changes. The moment we passed into Austria the farm buildings smartened, villages neater, gardens more prolific, wood piles neater, more Audis, Mercedes, Mini-Coopers.
