I better backtrack a bit, before leaving Vienna we had dinner with Ilse, Dieter and Inge. I really don't know why we have been going to restaurants because Ilse's meal was the best we have eaten bar none, with Turkey breast pieces in a garlic sauce, mushrooms and a Rissoni. It was fabulous. But it was a tough night saying goodbye to them all after they looked after us so well and we became a lot closer. Lots of tears and emotion, we sure will miss them, lucky there is Skype. ...

Thursday 16th October Sad to say goodbye to Halstätt and our guesthouse but onward. Walked around the end of the lake in the rain, but luckily it was light and only lasted about half an hour. Along another track with lots of trucks for a while, but mud was only on the surface, so all good. Then across the river and along the railway till we got to Koppenbrüllerhöhle. This is the point where the cave river exits to join the river below. It is dry at present so not ...

My mom was run over several times by such creatures, and if there is any sort of queuing, fuhgetaboutit! As we stayed longer the buses seemed to slowly disappear and the town started to settle down. Clearly this place must be very low key and peaceful at night, or at ...

... negotiate and find in places. Wonderful outlooks along the way up steep valleys and rock faces. Had a breather at the top and then headed down. Even steeper on this side with little in way of a track so had to follow the markers on the trees to find the way. We both had spills on the way down as the autumn leaves made things slippery after the rain, but nothing serious. Pleased to get down and have some lunch. From here we followed the river, initially ...

... over the lakes. Had a bit of a rest at the top, now bathed in sunshine and set off along the track. There was a cafe/bar where there were a group of cyclists enjoying a beer, at 10.30 am. Continued on and came across plenty of cyclists and walkers on the trail. Descent was very steep in a couple of places and very long compared to the ascent, so it would have been a very tough ride. Crossed the main road that leads to another ...
