... enjoying the heat.

We found a local cafe and had a nice lunch, a pizza like meal – Leanne and I tried to guess the words on the menu before we read the English one, to get acquainted and ready for the German language.

It's getting exciting after coffee and iced tea (I seemed really thirsty with the heat) around 3ish, we take a taxi to the dock where our ship Viking Tor is awaiting us.

Yesterday was mountains and snow, huge trees and deep gorges. Today was more about more placid rivers and lakes.

We were awake early, before the alarm, and at St Gervais Les Bain Le Fayet (lol) station at about 6.30 for our 7.03 train. Funny how it doesn't take long when you know the way! The train was on time and it had a First Class section - a TER train. Traveled at a reasonable speed, but still good for looking at the scenery. It was a pity there ...

... to wait up for me, as I get in at 9.27pm and then I have to checkin etc, and that we’d just catch up tomorrow, because she’d probably also want to settle in after a big flight. I did send her a welcome to Switzerland Yodel. Ha ha.

... here, it's quite dangerous crossing the street, because although trams only stick to their tracks, they come at you from all directions at once! And people just cycle along the roads between the tracks. Crazy! We stumbled upon a huge underground bike storage area. There were hundreds of bikes, there was a bike hire place and bike servicing. It's really cool! Later that night, we faced a dilemma: how to get to Paris? Regional trains ...

Flying still sucks

... that was still open and finally got some grub. It was pouring rain, which made getting my hair done before leaving a bit of a false economy, so we went somewhere else for a coffee. It was about $8 Canadian for a latte, as Switzerland likes to charge ridiculous amounts for things. Then we did some shopping while we waited for Laura's boyfriend Martin to find us and go for a beer. Basel is very cute, at least the older part I've seen so far. It finally stopped raining so we could walk around ...
