We left dark and early on a water taxi for the train station. It was 2 and a half hours to Milan and I slept half the way there. Milan to Basel was 4 hours and a beautiful ride. We rode past lake Como and planned the area as a stop for our next European vacation. It was gorgeous. We also rode passed the snow capped peaks of the Swiss Alps. ... a young German student we ended up riding together and sharing our lunch along the route. Simon was returning home after doing 2 semesters in law at the University in Nantes.

The ride between Montbeliard and Mulhouse in Alsace was all along the Rhone am Rhine Canal and was even downhill for a time! The locks were so close together that it felt like we were navigating down enormously wide steps - very nice for those going in the right direction. ...
