Twice over Stelvio in one day

... I came up yesterday.

After taking the fork the road down this section heads down into a massive deep valley and gently drops as it hugs the edge of the mountain.

After about 5 or so miles the valley becomes narrow and the road starts twisting its way down a magical pass in all directions. Some of the pass has been reconstructed over the years and various sections of old road can be seen as I descend.

The old road is even more twisty than the new and ...

26.10.14 Left Schwangau today and drove through Austria with snow all around us and to the Waldheim Hotel in the Valle Di Casies in the heart of the Dolomites. There is snow all around us but the roads are clear. It is a really picturesque area, not much to do except admire the scenery. We checked into the Hotel and went for a long walk, the Hotel has a restaurant so we will have dinner there. Stayed in our room and played scrabble ...

... with vegetables and sausage. Funny sight when the bowls arrived on their table with a big hot dog swimming around in their soup! :-). We waited and waited for Tom and John - wondering how their high mountain walk was treating them! Laurie finally called John to make sure they were still conscious. :-). ... not comfortable with her repaired hip on loose and slippery terrain. I suggested she keep going - we could make it slowly and carefully. And then we came upon the waterfall!

This waterfall was beautiful - cascading from way above over rocky portions. Really neat! Of course, to get to the other side, you had to walk right through the rapid water - over lots of rocks! And then - of course, we had to take a group ...

... charm to it. The people running it are absolutely amazing too. They do everything they can't o make you feel welcome and at home. Only one of the people in Jorge accommodation speaks English and as a result I have been pulling out the German. I can tell you now, my German is horribly basic! Haha but (to give myself credit) it is really hard to speak German when in Italy and everyone else is speaking Italian. ...
