    ... is 3,883 metres or 12,739 feet high and this year on August 15th is the 150th anniversary of its first ascent. Every night at 9.30, 10.00 and 10.30pm skiers have been lighting different ski paths up the Matterhorn and it looks beautiful. We are so proud of ourselves for making the trek up the mountain and actually walking outside AND taking some of the most amazing photos.     ... day. The road through Switzerland was excellent even though the grade was as much as 19% at times. However as soon as we passed the border into Italy the road quality noticeably deteriorated to one and a half lane rough roads with no line markings, but at least there were guard rails.     ... see the top of the rise and assumed that the trail would start reflecting what we were seeing on our map when we reached the top and around a slight right bend. Funny thing about mountains - you can't see the top until you're at the top. So we climbed and each time we thought we were close to the top, the alps just kept reaching skyward ahead of us. Now, at near 3000m the air is thinner than we're used to. Not to overstate the situation, but there was puffing ...

    ... Back into the three cable cars to get back to Zermatt.. And it was snowing quite heavily.. Loved it !!!! We walked, and walked, taking photos, ( and doing a little shopping) Decided to have lunch at Restaurant Derby... Yummy lasagne and Gluhwein..( hot herbed wine ) . Lots more walking, then took train back to Tasch, and then Marcel was waiting to take us back to Brig... Am tired, so once again, early night.. ...
