... to lunch. The grandparents live near Borgo's center, above one of the 3 Armani shops they own and run (the grandma knows Armani personally) and most of their children live in the same apartment complex. I met them all but couldn't tell you their names for the life of me, only that they were all wearing Armani everything-glasses, socks, shoes, even underwear. Meghan and I sat at the "kids" table, even though the oldest cousins are our age too, and it consisted of ...
Borgomanero, Piedmont, Italy alliemarieI am only stayin the night just to see the Matterhorn. The sun is out and I took a hike up nearby hill. It was about an hour and a half uphill walk with regular short stops to catch my breath. I think I have had enough of hiking now, I did 4 hours of it at Montreux as well, I must have the best **** at the moment. Spectacular view of the mountain at the hilltop though. It's less of a mountain and more of a giant pinnacle of rock. It looks menacing, to prove it there is a nearby graveyard full ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland tonkin... one of which was obviously our target. With lots of sign language, some French mixed with German, we got the idea over, and landed the photo. But we couldn't persuade him to do the handcuffs, so we didn't push our luck.
We crossed the border into France shortly afterwards and travelled along the Col du Petit Saint-Bernard (which, for some reason, google maps won't recognise as a road, although it shows it as a walking route!), and found ...
... out the signs and found that none of pointed to the place we were trying to get to, so we must have been going the wrong way. Very disappointing! But on the bright side (isn’t there always one?!) we had a gorgeous view from up there and the Matterhorn was peeking through the clouds at just the right time. It was the perfect moment to take a breather and some good piccies before our trek back down!
The trek down took about 20 minutes, it wasn’t as ...
We woke "late" (8am) and were the last to leave our bunk. Skipping breakfast, we began our 5 hour journey back to Zermatt. We chose a route that would give us a different view of the valley, but involved 1800m of decent. We paid for it for the next few days. We arrived at our apartment and ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland kramertown... cliffs to do some rock climbing. Andie and Derek went up- they were really fast. Then it started pouring, so I will do some rock climbing another time. A couple of other climbers there were local and offered us a ride to the train station. So we hiked to their car and got a ride to the train station in Aigle, where we took the cog train back up the mountain to Leysin. Now, I am getting a bit of work done, before I head over to Jaqui's apartment in Esplanade. She has a ...
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland apincumbe... so deadly. Brian is threatening to make me go back there tomorrow night for dinner too--not sure I have an good excuses to deny his request. I'm really excited about my hike tomorrow. My iPod is all charged up, my Camelbak is full and I have one of my ugly ski hats ready to wear. I'm headed over to Rothorn which offers the classic Matterhorn view and a number of wonderful trails. We'll have plenty of pictures to share tomorrow.
Zermatt, Swiss Alps, Switzerland jdet32... my dad to drink first then he says he makes his own liquor and he goes down and brings up some green **** he made, dad says it was sick wish i was a lil older to have been able to taste it haha. Zermatt, Switzerland asharpe... up to 3,000 metres to see the view .. (this is a 60 franc trip!). I met her and thanked her many times and said Id love to go if it was good weather.. our fireworks had to contend with rain that night. The next morning I was feeling about as pleasant as the day looked, cloudy, cold and rainy. I didn't end up getting to accept her offer due to the weather. I also missed out on seeing the Jungfrau region (great for more hiking) because of the never ending rain and cloud.. :(
