... be forthcoming as proof. It was so very nice of Hans and Irene to take me out for the day, and especially nice of them to allow me to view this wonderful, live picture of history. I had a magnificent time. We then drove back to their house in Arkmaar and had coffee and a small snack. Gyongyi hen met us there and we all had a really nice dinner together at a Belgian restaurant in Arkmaar. All in all, it was an absolutely delightful day.

I Return to Enkhuizen

... so many brain cells at that time. We visited that farm that we stayed at in a tent. We moved on to Volandam a spectacular fishing village and then drove backto Enkhuizen via the dike which protects places like Beemster which is 4.5 metres below sea level. This was a very nice day. I am now kicking back with a refreshing Heineken. I am very happy I have been able to visit Holland

Day Three - Sea Day

... cooks are either cooking for British tastes, or they are putting more effort into the Horizon Court buffet than the dining rooms. So far, the best meals we've had have been in the "casual horizon buffet meals" - while neither of us have been impressed at all with the meals we've had in the dining room. We've had lunch and dinner in the dining room - and they just have been rather bland, and our waiters didn't seem to put much effort into polite or competent service. Maybe it ...

Amsterdam - I got friends in "high" places...

... Dutch Apple to Cherries, to Vanilla Orange. All super strong, and the tradition at the bar is that the first sip had to be done without touching the glass. You'll see pictures, but it was cool to see a little bit of tradition over the centuries still kept strong. Okay, so what we learned: 1) Dutch are stingy; Well, most of this information comes from Jen, as she's had the experience, but we've had some experiences of our own with this. Apparently with the ...

Tour 5271 / 0820

Greetings The usual 6.15am wake up call and a great breakfast before leaving Cologne for Amsterdam. En route we had one comfort stop and arrived at Amsterdam at 11.30am which was great as it would give us more time out of the coach looking around. The drive through the countryside was delightful and many fell asleep including Jackie and myself. (Not for long though). We had 2.5 hours free on arrival and we went sightseeing. To be honest we were supposed to have only 1.5 hours and ...

... web you never know what it acutally will look like. We had managed to book the hotel the night before at a special rate which included buffet breakfasts every night, a bottle of champagne and chocolates!! Yay and it was even a four star. Talk about luxury. Haha. Once we had checked in at about 12.30am eaten the chocolates, drank the wine we quickly fell asleep!! On Saturday we were up to an early start as we had lots of things to cover in the few days that we were here ...

A drive around North Holland

... were cows, sheep, goats and horses. Lots of horses. I don't know why. They don't eat horses...do they...and I saw no racetracks let alone horses and carts. [ I learned later that they were raised for social reasons. The horses are used frequently in parades pulling carts and wagons. There is also a big demand from the youth to ride horses and take part in gymkhanas and dressage competition. ] Lining the road were fine houses with tall peaked roofs. This feature ...

My last (holi)day....

... with Oma and Opa. No cruesli this morning - I've eaten all the cruesli out of their house! (cruesli is the most amazing muesli you could ever eat - i just found a recipe for it on the internet if anyone is game! http://justapinch.blogspot.com/2005/09/ cruesli.html Though the one i had was incredibly unhealthy and about 25% fat i think! this recipe looks remotely healthy!) But anyway, Jose was coming to pick me up at 10.30 to take me to the tulip flower festival ...

Sand Dunes at Schoorl!!!

... playing with the frisbee (and I am still terrible with a frisbee!) and the football! We went there with two other boys, and their mother and her friend! Olaf and the two boys had fun climbing this beautiful climbing tree - and we got a few photos, so that was nice. And then we ran down the huge sand dune down to the carpark below! I had dinner and Ron and Jose's with Oma - boerenkool and rookworst, traditional dutch food!

Tulips and Magic Cakes

... magic cake, it was red, green, yellow, and brown. It was the craziest looking cake, she ended up getting a stomach ache and feeling dillusional. We love Amsterdam not for the sterotype of smoking weed, we actually only smoked weed the last 2 days we were there. Amsterdam is so much more than that, it's a place with amazing architecture, good food, nice people, and a wirde array of things to do. So many cool museums and parks to ...
