The Laundry plan

Last night we had just made a new itinerary to include a visit to a National Park on the coast, but that was all thrown out the window as we received a text message from Kim's mum saying she wanted to come and join us. Kim was ecstatic!!! Another replan session as we did our much overdue laundry in Grosetto and our trip of Italy was to come to an end sooner that we thought as we had to get to Barcelona in 1 week. It worked out better this way as Kim's mum flies home on the 15th Dec ...

Time for a bath

All vitamin D'ed up we arrived at our destination for the evening - Bagni di Petriolo - hot springs. Soon we were lounging in the hot sulphur pools watching the sun set. A fresh water stream ran alongside the springs and a dip in the water was very refreshing, although a little breathtaking at the same time! The pools were popular with the locals young and old as well as travellers as there were about a dozen campers parked nearby. As lovely as ...

Radicondoli

Our farmstay (Podere La Fonte) is nestled just below the old castle village of Radicondoli and has sweeping views of the Tuscan hills and other castle towns in the distance. It has been quiet, peaceful and beautiful - just what we needed after some busy travelling. The kids have disappeared outside each day to play and Tim and I have done nothing more strenuous than read in the sun, although we have managed the 5 ...

Southern Tuscany

Had a very relaxing time in Southern Tuscany this weekend. We left early friday morning and drove a couple hours to the final destination. I don't remember the exact name of the city we stayed in, but I know we traveled to Murlo so I just tagged that as the location of this entry. The weekend really wasn't too exciting, more relaxing and laid back than anything. We did go wine ...

"The Magic Flute"

... in the low spots. Once back home, it was another one of those magical moments... the moon is full, and we could look out over the valley and see moonlight reflecting on all the drifts of fog. Dave got some pretty good shots, but the pictures just don't do it justice. What a night! And now it's off to bed for a few scant hours of shut-eye, for we're taking a day trip to Siena and DH wants an early start.

"Venturing Out Once Again"

... Zauberflöte". The prospect of sitting under the stars amidst the ruins of an 800+ year-old abbey and listening to Mozart makes us feel this is an opportunity not to be missed. From here begins our rambling drive through the countryside, including one non-paved "road" through the Italian version of a National Forest that goes on long enough to make us concerned as to when we're going to find the next restroom to relieve our bladders. Not 5 minutes later ...

"Monday, Mon-da-a-a-ay..."

... before you know it, I'm happily chopping, stirring, and simmering. The end result is a pot of pasta e fagioli soup, bread to sop it up, and pears with cheese for dessert. Not too shabby, if I may say so! And to top that off?? We bought tea today, and I made some iced tea (there's one tiny ice cube tray in the refrigerator), the first we've had since leaving Texas. Nectar from the gods!!

The Red Garter, Italians, and Cocktail Jugs

One of the must see sights of Europe - The Leaning Tower of Pisa. What I hadn't realised was that the tower is accompanied by a beautiful church etc, and is in a old walled city. Compared to France, Pisa was dirty and loud, filled with beggers and street hawkers. A good place to buy counterfeit bags and watches... We had a good time taking the traditional tourist photo - holding up the leaning tower! After a long drive into Florence from Antibes via Pisa, we ...
