Appart'City Ouest Rennes

I went just one day to Rennes. I thought it was really pretty since all of the houses are made of
rough stones, des maisons bretonnes typiques. Aussi, les maisons sont faites
toutes un peu croches, ca donne un petit style que j'aimais bien.



Et oui effectivement, il fait beau plusieurs fois par jour. It does rain a LOT.
There is mainly what is in every french city, bars, restaurants and shoe shops!

Been chopping some wood for the fire for the last 2 days with ayms cousins and family. 1 of ayms cousins has an old merc he doesnt need, so he has told us we can have it.
Its gonna cost qbout 400 euros to get in insured, mot and on the road, but im hoping rose and mickou will come and split the costs with us.
Petrol to tunisia through spain and africa will cost about 300 euros so its not too bad, hoping to get work in south of france next week to fund it.

... a new town or city is far more compelling than grannies lovely soup. The plan is to move on in the next few days, possibly meeting up with my friends Rose and Mickou (sp) if we can get work along the way.

Unfortunately the fairy tale turretts and cobble streets failed to live up to expectation and seemed to lack any ambiance. This was probably not helped by us arriving at lunchtime when but everything was shut - French siesta time. After wandering around the deserted streets ...

Awoke early to freshly brewed coffee and cereal in bed - can't have eggs everyday! Kim convinced me to go for a run later today and not this morning - her reason she was hungry, but I think she was just being lazy :) Not 100% sure what lay ahead today as we had only planned as far as Vitre, which is said to revial Dinan in the mediavel town alure.

Hadn't meant to leave it so long between blogs, but the last fortnight has gone very quickly and also internet access hasn't always been possible.

I'm still thoroughly enjoying myself and have settled into the routine here, it's been a lovely round of picking fruit, borage flowers, haricot and so on, along with other tasks like transcribing some CDs (busman's holiday that bit...), cleaning windows and the house, hacking back ...

... I had a wonderful time just wandering around, lost most of the time. "Je suis perdu" is a great phrase for me in a town with medieval streets, because I have no sense of direction. When one of the friendly Rennes inhabitants would redirect me, I was usually going exactly opposite to where I thought I was heading. My next techno toy will have to be handheld GPS! The old part of Rennes has streets full of boutiques, bars and brasseries. I also ...

... I'm glad that we went and took some pictures for her. After we finished our tour of the forest, we started to head back to Rennes for dinner with m host family. As soon as we turned onto the highway to head back to Rennes, we got stuck in traffic. At first, I thought it was just normal, end of the workday traffic, but after about a half an hour of waiting and creeping forward, we realized that there was an accident. Apparently, a cargo truck had caught on fire and had burned pretty ...

... Amazing. I'm in love with the French pastries...they'll begin to love me soon as well. :) St. Malo is only an hour or so away from Rennes; I was really surprised to learn this. It is right on the northern coast of France and La Manche Aka Ocean. I was super excited to see some water. It must just come from living on an island and constantly having a body of water only a few minutes away. As soon as we got off the bus, I smelled the ocean air and felt ...

... that is clean to the max, they spent most of the weekend cleaning and doing chores. They have hosted one student before me who happens to be from Seattle. I only know that her name was Kate and that she was an extremely picky eater. Camille is also going to visit her for her spring break in April. They think it is really crazy that I grew up and live on an island and that I am so different than Kate. I hope those comparisons aren't frequent between us. My host father is ...
