... nice to see him and his family again. Fantastic lunch and same goes for the company. As all good things have to end we parted around 4 pm to go back to my brother's place for ... you guessed it another reunion with a childhood friend, Agnes what can I say... she will never change. Love her to bits even though she is a little mad (in a nice way)
Nancy, Lorraine, France fbauchet... signs for 10km laughing about what it could be ... probably nothing more than a pile of rubbles. To our amazement after a pleasant drive, there they were... an amphitheatre and its dependences. We went back to Pont-Saint Vincent at the end of the afternoon for a pleasant dinner with my family.
Nancy, Lorraine, France fbauchet... dinner we went down by the river and let of some FIREWORKS!!!

Day 2

We visited Johann D'arc house were she was born. The house is around 600 years old. I find it amazing that the house survived the first and the second world wars. Johann D'arc is famous for hearing voices and fighting the English in the 1400's. We stopped at some Roman ruins as we were driving back to the hotel. There was half an amphitheatre and they museum people ...
Nancy, Lorraine, France joshb... have a shower when my wife of 16 years remembered that today was my 45th birthday. We went to place Stanislas had a great time and we opted for a light lunch at "l'arrosoir" nice little place close to place carrier. I drove back Marg and the kids back to the Hotel for a rest and I went shopping for the goodies needed for my birthday dinner. Andouillettes, horse Berliner, rabbit pate, and 6 different kinds of cheeses.... not a veggie in sight, this should be a great dinner.
Nancy, Lorraine, France fbauchet... different dishware, etc... We also went into a store completely littered with jewelry. It covered the walls, there were shelves and shelves of jewelry, and then revolving things with jewelry too. I've never seen so much jewelry in one place. And then, of course, there are the French bakeries and chocolate shops to drool over. It was a great excursion and Liz and I both wished we would have had more time to spend in Nancy. By the ...
Nancy, Lorraine, France alina-bethWow Nancy, what a beautiful city. It's small but absolutely gorgeous. We stayed in a decent hotel just a stone's throw (am I infringing on copyrights here J + S?? :) ) away from the main square with its gates of gold and beautiful public buildings. Nancy is known for its beauty, its delicious food and its bergamotte candies. For those wondering what bergamotte really is, it's a citrus fruit which grows on, amongst other ...
Nancy, France msprague... I have to say that driving to the hotel locations has been much more difficult vs. when we arrive to a city to just visit for an hour. The signs all tell you how to get to a centrally located parking garage, but the signs towards the hotels are very small. Very hectic! But the combo of Lisa driving and me navigating has been very good so far. Good thing I ...
Nancy, Lorraine, France yihaw10... pastries with apples and caramel). One of the others had also made a Tarte au Fromage - like a cheesecake. They were all lovely (Yes I had a bit of each as did the others!). There was so much there we were all given some to take home too! After dessert we had coffee and chocolate - the chocolate was my contribution because I didn't have time to make anything and it would have been too hot in my car all day :) The next day of work Kim told me that she had forgotten to serve the ...
Nancy, Lorraine, France watchoutworldBest bit: finding a friendly cafe that did hot chocolate Worst bit: losing contact with my feet Distance: 121 KM I should have known I was in trouble today when the hotel owner as he served me my morning croissant and coffee kept muttering "monsieur you are so courageux". I had vaguely watched the weather the night before and figured from the symbols that something bad was about to happen ...
Nancy, France springy100Our first exciting barge experience was attending Roger Van Dyken's Barge training course.

Roger and Marlene took three couples, Laurel and I, Brad and Nancy and Steve and Pei Shan (interestingly we have now all bought barges!) and with much patience and good grace taught us all how to run a barge. We left from Toul in Lorraine ...
