Last stop in France

After brekkie it was onto Menton which is a lovely little town just before the Italian border. Menton is a much more down to earth place than its neighbours and more our scene. We found a park right on the beach and went for a wander and took in sum much needed sun. Next stop Italia!!
... and not campervan parking friendly. We found a picture perfect stop just after Monte Carlo at the top of a hill overlooking the Med. We had the place to ourselves so we russelled up some brekkie in the sun which was lovely, so much so we were in t-shirts!!!

Gorges Verdon... Route Napoleon

... seen and spoken to, to date.
Set off mid morning to drive through Gorges du Verdon, again another stunning drive. This time though the weather was kind to us and we were able to get out for a hike after lunch. It seemed like a popular drive as we encountered several other tourists, one couple were eating lunch at the same spot we were. They packed up their picnic, took a swig out of ...

Antibes and St-Tropez

Cannes is not as glamrous as we thought it would be, it still has all the fancy smancy stores along the beach, but there were definitely no red carpets rolled out when we were there. We did a day trip to St-Tropez, its was the end of a hge sailing competitiona and tons of ...

They are 200 to 375 Euros a week and include the electricity and propane, linens, dishes, sun chairs and umbrellas. Quite nice.

There is an amusement park right next door with a huge Ferris wheel, cotton candy that is huge, then across the road is a water ...

French Dinner and Valentine's Day

This weekend began on Friday when we were invited to have a real French dinner at a real French family's house. This dinner had been pushed back for different reasons and I had been looking forward to it for several weeks. I met my friend Maxou on the ski trip. His real name is Maxime and he is 20 years old and goes to my school. We call him Maxou because he is in the leadership group that planned the ski trip and on the back of all of their shirts, they had ...

... Carrefour which is like a huge Walmart. It had food, clothing, school supplies, toiletries and pretty much everything you can think of. I bought a fleece jacket and snow gloves for my ski trip for really cheap. I also got some food (including croissants) and stuff we needed for our apartment. I can't wait until Ross gets here. I'm getting a train pass today that gets me 50% off all trains in the French Riviera. I will probably be able to get to ...

Antibes!

... in a sea of crème anglaise. Very beautiful indeed. The next day was Antibes, which I absolutely loved. I think that small cities/towns in Provence are just one of my favorite types of place to be. Anyway, we started out with a really tasty prix fixe breakfast: pastry, coffee, and juice for 5€ (France is definitely pricier than Italy). Then sitting around by the beach, kir royales at the fancy café on ...

... tea and a dessert made with lady fingers dipped in coffee liquor and served with ice cream. The food was good, but I particularly enjoyed the company. It was a great opportunity for me to practice speaking in French. I wish I could have experiences like that more often. We were vrey reluctant to leave in the morning, but the road was calling and we were expected in Hungary by the 20th. Au revoir sunshine and surf.
