Today we took an early bus from Leiden to Lisse about a half-hour drive. It was the perfect day to visit Keukehof Gardens, cool, but sunny with little wind. The gardens are a spectacular sight, 86 acres of millions of tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, and muscari. The lower level, another staircase also steep, is a large working area ...

  • Some shops, restaurants and museums were closed being a Monday.
  • Very quaint city to explore, nice quiet canal ways, beautiful photo ops.
  • Leiden has one particular feature you cannot fail to notice: the water. After Amsterdam, Leiden is the city with the most canals and waterways. One of the rivers that ...

Captain Johann and cook Coone run a tight ... er ... barge. Breakfast is at eight sharp and in case you forget it, the clanging of the bell in the dining room below deck never fails to jog your memory. After the sumptuous meal prepared last night, we were not surprised to find a spread of equal measure available this morning.

After locking through at Utrecht, the barge followed the River Lek to Schoonhoven. Having been fitted for our ...
