... more traditional food like baked cabbage with meat.
A route which I especially recommend, and which I do more or less once every 2 years, is a trail to Chata pri Zelenom Plese (literally: a house next to a green lake). It takes about 3 hours to get there, and the walk is not too taxing even for a beginner. It's a peaceful place with a lake, a cosy hostel and the mountains. There are a few trails than ...
... Great atmosphere. While here, we took a Gondola to the top of one of the mountains and hiked down. When we were at the top we did a bobsled type of ride down part of the mountain. Pretty fun but Brian was upset the woman in front of him was going too slow. I think it was a good thing or he may have gone right over the edge. We enjoyed the sunset and a beer at the top before our hike down. Didn't take long but still hard.
The next day we wanted to try this river ...
... is no longer as cheap as it used to be.
The castle itself is a 1h30min guided visit. The tickets are cheap but the queue tends to move really slowly; normally you need to wait for a group to form, there are Slovakian, Polish, English, French and German speaking tours available. In reality, you join any of the group you wish, as you are going to get a booklet describig briefly the history of the castle ...

... My trip then took me to northern Ukraine in a small community near Rivne. I spent a total of 5 or 6 days with my friend Dima and his family. He has a beautiful little girl. They were very nice and treated me to a week of "Ukrainian life". I experienced every from the soup to Salo. For you wondering, Salo is Pork's fat with salt. You normally eat it on a piece of bread with a bit of garlic. I would have loved to stay longer. I did cancel my trip to Odesa. It simply did not ...
Zakopane, Southern Poland, Poland cleblanc00... and found what looks to be wooden poles on the farthest left hill. I hadn't seen these before because the weather up here was very foggy, I was situated right in the clouds for some time. When I waited for this fog to clear I walked toward these wooden poles and realized they were at 100meter intervals all the way UP the hill. I knew what had to be done. I noticed some sign of footing in the snow covered over by snow from previous passer-bys and stayed on their ...
Stary Smokovec, Slovakia jaywehrs... me there's another hostel in centrum and gives me directions. After a while things/buildings start to look familair. Still I can't find the hostel. I do find an internet cafe thou. I walk in and say good eve in Polish. The guy starts talking to me in English. By this point in time I have given up. Zakopane, Poland kasia-waw... make out the summit of Mt Rysy, Poland's highest peak at 2499m. Looking towards the southwest the Slovakian Tatras spread out as far as we could see. There were a few others at the summit, but they left after a few minutes. The views and serenity were just sublime, and we decided to forget about the time and just enjoy the surroundings for a while. Aga had climbed the peak before, but it was on a cloudy day so the views were as new to her as they were to me. A little ...
Zakopane, Poland will... Union isn't good for Slovakia. The wealthy powers, like Germany or France, want to "vyuzivat" (use) the small countries. When asked if communism was bad, he said only in that if you didn't work you went to prison. He dreams of moving to Canada. Like two Slovakian owners before him, he complained he pays very high taxes. And Marvin drove me as I was leaving the High Tatra's. He was also studying something that didn't interest him, but he was lucky ...
High Tatra's, Slovakia modernoddyseus... in a very scary voice to which the translation kicks in with "Co robisz" (What are you doing) in the most monotone voice, good laughs all round. 02/01/06 Got up late and headed into town to buy some postcards, got tempted by all day drinking but we had a train to catch so my conscience got the better of me. We went back to the singing place for some more grub before booking the taxi to the train station, then the fun began!! We arrived at the ...
