Historical Traveler Reviews of Apex European Hotel Edinburgh
Way over priced
from A TripAdvisor Member
Service was terrible. Started off badly when we were given the key to an already occupied room. Luckily the residents were not in their room when we walked in. The desk attendent disputed that the room was occupied until I gave him a full description of the luggage, room service dishes and umbrella we had seen in the room. The room wasbso small you couldn't even walk around. We could hear people screaming all night on the street. Definitely would give this hotel a pass. Especially for the price.
Very disappointed

I have just returned from a overnight stay at the Apex European. Very disappointed. The room was supposed to be executive. Very small no drawers very little wardrobe space. the room was extremely hot but we were unable to open the two windows due to the road noise. There was no sockets near the vanity area to enable you to dry your hair unless you crawled on your hands and knees under the unit and took out another plug. Pleased I took my own hairdryer as there didn't appear to be one in the room. Same problem with kettle there was no handy sockets. The shower was very powerful but couldn't control it too well, water sprayed past the shower screen and soaked the floor, and although it is a small complaint the toilet rolls were made of a hard paper. the grout around the tiles were a bit shabby and paint was peeling off the ceiling. The receptionist was very slow, but the one good point was the rest of the staff were very pleasant especially the restaurant staff. Paid £158.00 for one night bed and breakfast, did not think it was value for money and cetainly would not stop there again.
Good quality

Me and my friend went for the weekend to Edinburgh, and we choose the Apex thinking it was right by the city centre. Our mistake really but our gain as well. The hotel is about 15 minutes walking to Princess St but there's plenty of buses if you prefer not to walk. We had a room to the back of the hotel, so it was quite quiet. The rooms are compact, but clean and confortable. Breakfast was lovely and the staff are really, really nice. Claire, the receptionist, was wonderfull and made sure we had a great stay. Would definitly recommend.
Disappointing - too hot and noisey

March 05 - We stayed for 3 nights in the Apex European Hotel, we booked a standard room, which was ok in size, unfortunately the walls were really scuffed, paint had peeled above the shower and the furniture had been knocked about. The biggest issue was that we had two small windows that only opened a little bit, it was unbareably hot and when the windows were open the traffic was really loud continuously through the night.
On a positive note, the staff were friendly, food was good, service was slow.
Easy to find if using the city bus from from the airport and princes st about 10 min walk.
Wales Scotland rugby game
from Lisdar
We stayed two nights for the Wales Scotland rugby game nice room with plenty of goodies, large screen TV,very comfortable bed,
room lacks any draw space and would not want to stay for longer with a lot of luggage very good position for the west end breakfast was not included paid £260.00 for two nights two persons, but would stay there again.
Not Bad...

This hotel is good for convenience. We went to a concert in Murrayfield Stadium, which is a short walk away - so it's well worth staying here for a stopover. The rooms are nice but simple - a bit too simple for the price paid.
The breakfast was nice, and the staff were good too. Overall, a nice place to stay for a night, but I wouldn't advise a long stay as it may get a bit boring.
Quite convenient, small rooms
from kroeni
We stayed there for 1 night in August 2004. The city center is about 15 min walking distance. The hotel is on the road to the airport which is quite convenient. The room was clean, but a little small. There was a nice bathroom, a lot of soap, etc. Breakfast was included in our rate, but wasn't exceptionel (may be you have to order salmon,.. seperately). Price 80 GBP/double incl. breakfast.
Fine for one night!

The hotel is very handy for the West End of Edinburgh and Haymarket train station is virtually across the road.It is a very modern hotel, clean and bright inside. The staff are attentive and pleasant. The room we stayed in is very 'compact'! There is little space for clothing and luggage - a very small hanging area and no drawers. I am glad we were only staying for one night!
Really lovely hotel
from dippydired
Very nice Hotel, service was excellent and rooms were extremely comfortable and modern. Everywhere was clean and well presented. One minor comment - the breakfast was not good. It was dry and unappetising but as it was included in our rate we ate it. However, if you have to pay the £11 fee, then my advice is forget it.
Modern and central location
