Jaco- Busy Party Beach

... nice treat and it, along with the coffee, pulled us out of our stupor.

That day was mostly spent enjoying the amazing beach, surf and sun.  After we got back to camp we were excited to see Wesley’s cousin parked just a few spots over.  We had seen this ’83 white VW with Oregon plates up in La Fortuna and we were thrilled to get the chance to chat with the couple.  They had driven down as well, obviously, and were almost finished with their ...

Imperial days in Montezuma..

Montezuma, a small one road village on the Nicoya Peninsular of Costa Rica.  Countless bays of crushed shell beaches lapped by the Pacific Ocean and backed by rainforest noisy with the sound of Howler Monkeys and tropical birds.  This one street village stays true to it's hippie routes with locals selling handmade jewellery from 3 legged tables propped up by empty beer crates, flicking around their 3 foot long dreadlocked hair.  No one wears shoes or any clothing without ...

Montezuma

... This time is supposed to be the end of the rainy season in Costa Rica, but they have had some unusual storms come through. The storms have actually caused a lot of flooding on the Caribbean coast and will most likely prevent me from visiting that coast while I am here. We came back to pouring rain in San Carlos around 10:30 Sunday night. I am hoping that I wont have to wait until the weekend to see the sun again!

Costa Rica update and photos

... so thats 28 dollars! But we´ve come all this way so we pay the money, which just so happens to be about all we have, and head to the entrance, safe in the knowledge that the litre of rum and pineapple mixer we have will keep us going nicely. As soon as we get the the entrance they search our bags and i get told i cant come in with the rum! Bugger! So we did the only thing we could do.. sneak off into the bushes and make a very strong mix in the pineapple ...

URGENT UPDATE!!!

Just kidding! Urgent here is when your beer starts to get warm... Well if ever there were a place to sit around and wait for your luggage then Costa Rica would be one of the best. I mean this as a great compliment: nothing (and I mean *nothing*) happens here and certainly not at any speed. The shops open around 2pm if and when they feel like it. The 10am bus will arrive, possibly, somewhere between 10.30am and 11am and your ...

Beach house and my kind-of new surf board

... to have a board that could get beaten up over the next few months as I drag it into South America somewhere. We spent the afternoon goofing around on their beach and chilling out. Carmen cooked a delicious dinner and we watched another beautiful sunset. We went over to a neighboring development that was throwing a party. It was mainly older people, so we didn't hang out too long. Crashed on the early side to get up early to go surfing at 6am.

a Nicaraguan diary

... luck would have it, the river is dirty from rain in the surrounding mountains, but I still toss in a line. I mean i dragged my flyrod all this way, I had to at least go through the motions. It is a small river with lots of overhangs; a little tough for a fly fisherman, but when you have friends with machetes, the branches in your way disappear quickly! I actually do get a few (make that 2) bumps (picas), but in 3 hours we have no fish for the pan. I really ...
