Prakovce, Kosický, Slovakia thailon... intersection to reach the airport road in the dark, in the rain, in a diesel stickshift, with headlights which only illuminated the first 10 feet of roadway in front of the car. However, we snuck the car into the last parking spot at the rental agency at 6AM and then dropped the key in the night box. As the rental place closed at 6PM and didn't re-open until 8AM, they never knew the ...
Kosice, Kosice, Slovakia sponger42Today we attended a true slovakian church! The service and worship were in Slovakian but we were grateful to an american lady who sat behind us and translated the sermon for us! It was a very cultural experience and we enjoyed it. In the evening we went to Jeremy and Dara's, a ministry couple here with Campus Crusade. Our directions, however, were incomplete, and we couldnt find ...
Kosice, Slovakia astark... She gets all generations of it at once. Tomas and Peter are spending lots of time with us ..they are her generation and are as open to her as is the older part of the family. We extend our time here by a day...that's all we've got before Corey has to go back to NY. Tomorrow we'll see more cousins up in Poprad with Peter and his wife Julianna, who is so warm and delightful. I'm looking forward to spending the day together...although I really ...
Presov, Slovakia rawhideone... placed as a means of punishment... no, i did not try it out!! At the local ice cream parlour we watched them making the ice cream in churns out back then enjoyed the fruits of their labour! It was here that I also enjoyed a traditional eastern european dinner - a garlic soup - very creamy and quite delicious. not at all overpowering except i'm sure my mum would say she could smell it coming out my pores. For mains shared ...
Levoca, Slovakia herby... were lining up to pay homage to an image of Jesus as he lay in death. Back home in Brusno that evening, men dressed in suits and Fedoras, women in black, marched to the tiny white church on the hill. At 10:00 p.m. church bells rang in the quiet little village. It's a good time to be in what was once the godless Eastern bloc. Today it is said that Jesus rose from the grave, just as not so many years ago Communism crumbled and Christianity ascended once again from its ashes.
Kosice, Slovakia jackdrury... to Slovakia I felt like in a diffrent world! Finally it was possible to fill petrol by paying with creditcard, there were supermarkets without to search for it and all you need to buy provided. The signs have been written in european letters and so easily to read, i thought I don't need to buy a roadmap. In Kosice I will stop for the weekend in a hotel and to enjoy the nightlife.
Kosice, Slovakia pajas... square a sort of ovoid shape containing the Cathedral of St. Elisabeth. M-P, this is the place for you, the cathedral is big and grey and ornate and very, very Gothic. No flying buttresses, but it reminds me of nothing so much as Notre-Dame de Paris, on a smaller scale and with a nicer roof. On the doors of several shops and churches and banks, there are little signs, as we have at home, to indicate that there must be no food, no picture-taking, etc. on the ...
Kosice, Slovakia gadelle... and grandmothers tend gardens next to an idle railway station. The town doesn't seem to care much that it has two tourist gems a short walk from its peeling town centre. It not only has Spissky hrad but the walled ecclesiastical settlement of Spisska Kapitula. This settlement was once a power base for the region's bishops and then, since 1815, a seminary. Within its impeachable walls there is an ornate cathedral and gothic chapel and a main street lined with ...
