... Some sort of Croation tradition was going on in the stradum and cannons were blasting from the gun posts a short distance from where we were. I nearly fainted when I heard the first canon shot as I thought it was a bomb. Next a whole heap of traditionally dressed men came marching and blowing some sort of horns through the stradum and up to the wall.

Needing a bit of sustenance before the ascent, I noticed a little old lady selling tasty-looking fried pastries - I walked up to ask what was inside of them, but she only glanced up at me for a second, before scurrying away. ... phone a friend at that point in time. Some of these roads were just wide enough for 1 and a half cars. One side of the road a 200m vertical drop, the other, a 200m vertical rise. At some stages the road was literally placed on top of the apex of a ridge, as if a carpenter ran his plane across the top of the ridge line. It's not cool when cars are running you off the road when there is a 200 - 300 meter drop each side of the road.
