Quad and more wine in Marlborough

... Some other looked like paper on the back. Back in the day, they were actually used as paper because it was so expensive to import from the UK. To this date, it is still valid to send this leaf by post (with a stamp) in NZ. We ended the tour by reaching the fun park, where it is basically no limit apart from running over the sheep in the field.

I was in for a treat that evening when my kind hosts took me out to dinner at a Burmese Restaurant. I had never 'eaten Burmese' before and was most impressed. Another treat in store too, we ...

We were dropped of at our hotel door although I know the French girls were dropped straight to the Irish bar (talk about stamina).
We ate that night a a very classy place call Escape to Picton, a recommendation from Sam. the food was first class and although a little bit expensive, it was worth every cent.
The next day we went for a cruise with Cougar, it took most of the day with a few hours at Furneaux Lodge and ...

Walking the lovely Queen Charlotte Track

... enjoying ourselves. On our first night we checked into a small 4 bedroom lodge, "No Road Inn", probably the nicest place we have stayed in on the whole trip and we were just so posetively surprised by the place after staying in backpackers for 1½ month. The owners Garry & Barbara looked after us perfectly, and cooked great food in the evening; whitebait fritter with lemon, grouper tempura and rock lobster ...

... the mussels in a little white wine and they tasted great. 22 March - we hired mountain bikes and drove to Kenepuru Saddle and we cycled one of the day sections of the Queen Charlotte Track - from the Saddle to Furneaux Lodge and back. It was largely in the trees but we did get occasional good views and Furneaux Lodge was situated by the water's edge. The scenery was good but did not have the same Wow factor as Abel Tasman. However it also had a fraction of the number of walkers, though ...

All good things...

... on the slopes of an exploded volcano. Just a few final things about this trip. Cycling is a wonderful way to travel. You experience wildlife, sights, sounds and smells that you would never experience traveling any other way. You also meet many people who are curious and usually amazed that you have cycled nearly the same distance in one day that they have just traveled by car. However, the privilege of this experience often is *******e. We cycled in cold, rain ...

Picton and Beyond

31/08/2008 We got off the ferry onto the South Island at about 5pm and drove along a very windy coastal road to a small town, Havelock, which bills itself as the green mussle capital of the world, Lizzie had to stop and sample some - much bigger and tastier than those we picked out tof Wellington harbour last night! We drove on into the night until we found a good spot next to a river to bed down for the night.

... the harbour mouth we were greeted by about fifty small dolphins who zoomed around the ship, jumping out of the water and chasing each other. The day brightened into clear, sunny skies and we enjoyed a very calm sail across. There was another small pod of dolphins as we approached South Island and then we entered the narrow channels of South Island and were sailing down Queen Charlotte Sound until we reached the port of Picton.

I thought it was supposed to be summer

... I woke up early and went for a run, there is a great path close to the hostel that runs along a river/creek/stream. Then I wandered around town, managing to get lost several times. Around three the owner of the hostel, Damian, took myself and several other people out to Indevin to get a look at where we would be working. They were busy preparing ...

... Next door was a little knick-knacky gift shop affair, offering tastings of their olive oils. We'd learnt by now (from an olive oil tasting bloke in a supermarket in Auckland) that if it tastes like freshly cut grass, you say it's 'rich in herbaceous notes'. Some were rich in herbaceous notes (a brownie point or two scored with the staff), some peppery, some tasted of...well, of olives, but they were all pretty good. One door along was The Village winery, where a Dutch ex-pat ...
