Alpenzoo & Ski Jump

... it is covered with a chocolate ganache- it was delicious, much better than the day before.

The afternoon was Greg’s choice and we went to the Bergisel Stadium which is the new ski jump facility which was opened in 2001. This was on the site of the original ski jump facility which was used for the Winter Olympics in 1964 and 1976. You went in a cable car, then a lift to the top ...

It's snowing outside, so it must be cold.

... I had wished that I would be able to get them home in one piece.

We walked down to the Triumphal Arch which was erected in 1765 on the occasion of the wedding of the later Emperor Leopold but his father died during the celebrations so one side depicts happiness while the other is sad. After walking through a modern shopping centre, we walked back to the hotel via a park where the kids happily played until Greg and I were getting too cold.

More Snow

... a large room and then walked into the old town to have dinner at a restaurant that had Austrian food. The prices seem quite reasonable after Switzerland, but that might be because they are in Euros. I had a goulash which was quite nice but salty. Again German is the language used but most people speak English so we haven't had any problems. It was very cold as we walked home and Tara kept saying, I hope it snows tomorrow (it certainly felt cold enough).

Neuschwanstein castle

... free camping ahead :) We drove towards Munich and parked once again on the street in a small town, which has by far been our most common theme for free camping but is usually the safest choice for us. The best part about Fred is that he is small enough to park on the street and does not look like a campervan, so anyone who sees him most likely would think it was a mail truck or something…at least that is what we tell ourselves :)

... packed in tightly on either side of the narrow pedestrian street. My mom was sucked right in. I don't know how long it took for us to walk the length of this short street, but it was several minutes too long.

We never did visit the cathedral. Our stomachs took over and we went for food instead. We found a nice pizza place with good prices so we went in. Everything seemed OK until my boyfriend asked for a new set of cutlery because when we first sat on our table it had ...

THAT WAS SOME HIKE!

We try to figure out what we are going to do,

I think the mountain was calling us to come up. So we finally decide that we will just go up to the first stop and walk down. ... that one down quickly while he kicks with the other leg..) and somehow, I hurt my ankle in the process. I landed on my left foot wrong and felt a pop on the outside of my ankle. I thought it was ok, but when i was working out yesterday, I think I exacerbated it with these jumps I was doing. So we went for part of a hike today, and once my ankle had enough, we turned back.

Now, we're showered and playing more cards with drinks and Justin just made a mean guacamole so I have to go.

A stop on the tour

... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.

... place. The pictures in the museum and the feeling of the rows of wooden bunks haunt my mind. I can't understand how people can ever believe that they have the right to treat others like the Nazi's treated people. It's a sad, terrible thing. Our train left Munich around 4:30 pm. Both of us admitted we may not ever want to return...not sure if it was the personal sadness, the concentration camp, or what...but we left Munich with heavier hearts.

Just like a fairytale

Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.
