... beach again as it was such a nice day.
Walked to Marjan Forest Park and hired bikes and rode around park. Some pretty steep hills but awesome views from the top of the park and heaps fun going back down.
Went back to Fife for dinner since it was so awesome and so cheap and had tripe and roast veal.
Fife is some of the best and best value food I've had in ages. Especially compared to most of the other touristy places in Split
We were really excited to finally get to a Croatian island. We took a ferry from Split to the island of Hvar. It's a really small island where pretty much the only thing to do there is go to the beach. We didn’t have a place to stay booked because we knew about the "sobes." They are apartments locals rent out to tourists for really good deals (especially in October when it’s on the border of shoulder season and off season). The second ...
Hvar, Hvar Island, Croatia mdaa... it wasn't luxury, it was decent and we really enjoyed it. There was a couple from Switzerland who were in Croatia for windsurfing and we talked to them for a little while the following morning before we headed out.
Today has to have been the most relaxing day of the trip! We woke this morning and while we were having our breakfast, Matt spotted three dolphins swimming out in the water below us! We watched them for ...
... to the winery but didn't even sample. We all went off board and had a couple of drinks on the beach before heading back onboard for a bbq.
Dubrovnik - Such a beautiful city. We wandered around the Old Town district which has a wall surrounding it. Climbing the wall you get to see the beautiful coastline on one side and the town on the inside. Filled with alleyways you can get lost in the maze of this gorgeous town.
Mljet - It is a national park. So we paid the entry fee ...
... we had weather mostly in the 80s and plenty of sun-such a nice break from northern European weather! Trogir itself is a really small town located on the coast. It reminded me a lot of what I imagine Greece to look like, though it obviously had a lot of influence from the Moors and the Venetians. We were all amazed at ...
Trogir, Croatia vmoyen... was reduced to 100, somewhere even 80 km/h. The car was shaking, therefore I decided to leave the highway and used the side roads. I notice that highway was closed when I was crossing the highway at the Paklenica exit. Lucky me! After 10 minutes I arrived to Paklenica, found a spot to sleep, prepared myself for windy a night under the sky and got some good quality sleep.
Split, Croatia kubalekm... what had changed. There was more money around it seemed, and lots of bars and restaurants had updated their images. The promenade had been upgraded which was great, though the ugmo sail type posts were an eyesore and took away from the Diocletians palace but dad believes the locals are complaining so much they may be moved. Hopefully! And yes, the new promenade is made from the same silver white limestone graniteish rock that abounds here so it is slippery ...
Split and brac, Croatia shanemilli... Aude is goofy and easygoing and likes to speak her mind. Another good point about her - she has a slightly twisted sense of humour. Emilie is more serious, methodical, and cerebral. She likes to plan things while Aude likes to decide as things happen. Sadly, Aude's limited English (and my horrible French) meant that I couldn't get to know her as well as Emilie. Emilie was probably getting tired of translating for us! Both are great girls ...
Split, Croatia pwong... what their was to see of trogir, at least in this season. after being in croatia now for a few days, we were able to sum a few things up. first, the guide books and internet resources focus mostly on the resort towns and tourism-based areas - we knew that going in. we chose to visit in the off-season to get a feel for croatia and the culture there, and before it is inevitably worn-down by tourism. after all the research done over the past ...
Trogir, Croatia akawally... square pastry filled with a lot of the cheese mixture. It is a bit messy, but well worth trying! Another interesting food was the Dalmatian pizza, with tuna (always called tunny on English signs there, I think it's an alternate spelling), shrimp and a whole, tiny crayfish on top, like a minature lobster. There are many tourists in Dalmatia, even though we were there in the off-season, so most menus and signs are translated into German, English, and French or Italian ...
