... we’ll get to what it feels like in the Tour de France.

The plan was to take it easy today, keep the heart rate and power down and not get carried away with excitement of the race. We’re going to need to do that for at least a couple of more days so that we have energy to get us through the week. If we overdo it now, we’ll pay later. The plan worked. Dave, Terry, Paul and I rode together ...

Andorra has more mountainous S-bends per km of road than anywhere in the world, I am sure, and we traversed most of them today! Set off slowly, after a sleep in until 8 am, and travelled west across the Pyrenees. Beautiful villages and mountainous country. Then crossed into Andorra. Tiny entirely mountainous country between France and Spain, about 50x 60 km, speaking mainly Spanish. We set off up hill ...

Awoken early by absolutely nothing - pure silence not even a breath of air, this cabin is indeed in a tranquil place high in the mountains - pure essence of meditation (yep quite different to Fremantle). Started outside with tidying up and putting tools away, as the cabin was being put into mothballs However food and caffeine fix called. Heading off ...

    ... we are.

We stopped in Cardona, Spain the first night and stayed in what may be the most insanely palatable time warp experience to the middle ages that one can imagine. It was a Spanish parador. It was a bonafide castle. It had turrets. There was a tower where a fair maiden was imprisoned, and eventually murdered, by her brothers, for falling in love with a moorish jailer. There were swords and strongholds, and everything war related, and while Bethany did ...

    Expect the unexpected

... it would be to go up. So we did. With no idea what was up top we took the 10 Euro ride up thinking we could grab a coffee from the hotel and enjoy the vista. The ride up was spectacular: beautiful rocky outcrops, mountain and valley views from every angle from our cute yellow cable car. Once on top we were in for more of a surprise, this place wasn't just a hotel, it was a village, a village by the name of Montserrat and home to the Monestir de Monsterrat (monastery) and all ...
