    ... medieval part of town. The streets were quite dark, narrow alleyways. The buildings were different from the newer part of town. We went to a restaurant and had tapas.     ... is a 4 hour walk. For pure fun wander Las Ramblas as often as possible as you crisscross this amazing city by foot. The Barcelona Museum of National Arts (in the converted Palau Nacional) in front of the Magic Fountain was another highlight - particularly for those that love art.     ... padlocks have been double checked and we are watching our backs. It's easy enough to identify the people who need to be watched but we are cautious of others just to be sure. The town is completely different from granada but still has the same cultural vibe, it's just bigger, less open about drugs, and the gypsy scene is missing. We had wanted to hire bikes and thought we could take advantage of the bike hire system similar to that in Melbourne, only to discover that it is only available to Residents.
