At one point on the trip the guide gets his trumpet out, and plays a tune next to the cliffside called the Echowand, and depending on the weather the notes echo one or two times - all very funky ...

The weather was mixed today so we decided to go to the town of Berchtesgaden and take a drive up the Rossfeldstrasse, the highest panoramic drive in Germany. It was then time for coffee and a cake in the town before having a quick stomp about. We needed to be back in reasonable time, as we were heading to Salzburg, to the cinema, having found a Cineplex that was showing Spectre in English !! Yeah ...

The mine is still active, producing tons on salt every year by bore hole drilling technology and dissolution/evaporation methods. There were light shows, movies, pumping stations, slides to go down (!!), Europe's oldest staircase with a 3-D projection of what life was like when it was used, and then a train ride that took us out of the mine at the end.
