First news from St Anton

... well back in the UK and that the weather isn't too rubbish.

oh, the only other thing to say is that the place we are living is pretty cool, it's a proper appartment, not your usual chalet staff accommodation of bunk beds and room sharing. we've got ensuite! also got sky tv and, rather than driving up the motorway for 45 minutes to get to work each morning I have approximately a 5 minute walk through the snow!

that's how for now.

St Anton Vs Subiaco: A Comparison

... of fresh snow fell on Tuesday night. Visibility was perfect and the clear blue skies allowed the sun to shine brightly all day. The piste was perfectly groomed and those who felt adventurous enough to venture off-piste were rewarded with soft powder which was surprisingly deep in parts. I have a few pictures from that day which I have posted below and with more snow forecast for the next few days, hopefully we will get some boarding/skiing pics on here soon.

Up There With the Best

... the most impressive aspect was that it was still very fast and turned remarkaly well when put on edge.

Our first day on the mountain deserves a little coverage in its own right. Despite the lacking conditions it felt great to be back on the snow, sliding down the mountain and scoping out the endless amount of potential that the surrounding terrain holds. Almost every report of St Anton that I had read described this place as ...

St Anton Worriers

... appeals) and it's easy to get caught up in it all and become a 'St Anton Worrier'..... but there's just no point in my opinion. Why should I stress when I look out the window at the sun-rising over the crisply snow-capped mountain peaks and ponder the possibilies of 150 day plus of unadulterated, unitnerrupted snowboarding and partying. This is what we've been waiting for - the beginning. This is it.

Edit: It's now snowing.

Now you see it.. now you don't

We were planning to go to Liechtenstein but thought we may as well as it was sort of on our way. It's the worlds 6 smallest country so it would have been rude not to go..haha.

We didn't drive to the main town but to another.. where really there wasn't anything. I did get a photo with the tourist sign though. Had to somehow prove I'd been there!

Quck jaunt to Liechtenstein

... get on the bus I watched southern Liechtenstein roll past on the way to Vaduz. Cute villages with quaint houses, cows grazing in green pastures, and a castle sitting on a high hill surrounded by vineyards.

Vaduz is a very nice city. The royal residence, a castle of course, sits on a high cliff directly above the city centre. The main street is a pedestrian street with shops and restaurants, museums, the tourist office, the ...

... go all out for desserts, and it shows…but they also walk a lot, so they can eat like this. When we returned from dinner, it was quite late and we have an early start on Monday... we are off for Lucerne. (Before I forget, the music during dinner was absolutely wonderful. Two young fellows were playing local Swiss mountain music on accordions and my feet just couldn’t stay still. Maggie was the only other one of Our Group who went with us.) We had a great time.
