... some enthusiasts and the community got together and restored it. Since 2001 it's been used to press olives from the surrounding groves. I talked to the guys - thickly Catalan accented - who were proudly showing it off yesterday - reminded me of train enthusiasts! Empuries was the furthest outpost of the Greek Empire and although it is not thought Hannnibal ever visited, legions of Romans used this spot as a disembarkation point for invasion. Greek and Roman ruins are evident. Whilst we were visiting, the exhibition in the local museum focussed on the sex lives of the Romans. Those racy Romans!

... New York, a couple from Derbyshire, two women from Brighton, a guy from Essex and the tour guide Dylan's dad, ranging in age from about 40 to 60+. We had a quick spin along the beach front, weaving in and out between people, small dogs and random street furniture. It's always a nervous time seeing who's super fit. Some of the folk were very quick but I know they are not always the ones who make it to the end.

... traditional French - the usual wonderful cheeses, charcuterie and artisanal bakery, jams etc....with empanadas, paella, and all sorts of other influences from just over the border. Collioure is famed for its hand-packed tinned anchovies too. Yum!
