... as the sky becomes blocked and the slabs become more imposing. According to the designer Peter Eisenman, this is meant to cause a feeling of helplessness and despair, just as the victims of the Holocaust fell deeper into the downward spiral of horror as the war progressed. The tour through the museum was, as with all the other Holocaust Museums I've visited, heart wrenching. Bruce, not having the interest that I do in such things decided to ...
Berlin, Germany houghtaling... at this museum is "60 Years of Art of the Bundesrepublik." (Bundestag is the Federal German parliament). This exhibit was very interesting. The works in this show were from German artists from 1949 to 2009. The works included sculptures, paintings, and photographs. In a discussion that we had with an artist about the exhibit later, he made the interesting comment that artists from the DDR were not really ...
Berlin, Germany jcho... by the SS and Gestapo and never seen again. This plaques have the names of the people who lived there, which really drives home just how real it was. We also saw the headquarters of the Nazis, saw more sections of the Berlin Wall including a part where a man flying foxed himself and his family over the wall from a rooftop, and Checkpoint Charlie. Just a little added extra for Berlin that I love but John hates.... Their little traffic light man is ...

The next day we made our way to the train station to book tickets for the next part, we smoked fat spliff #2 in some woods and it took about 3x longer to reach the ...

Berlin, Germany el_sepa... meet in front of the DB Reisezentrum at the Berlin central station. Well, oops, the central station actually has two reisezentrum. So after about 20 minutes or so, Liz came looking for me. Ah reunions in foreign countries!
She has a hostel all set up so we head there and drop off my bag and check in to a pretty cool hostel. After catching up a little bit (which would become a common theme of the weekend!) we head out to see Berlin by night. What a ...
... suffered during WWII. Incidentally, you can save EUR3.25 by picking up a handy little flyer past the ticket booth, rather than buying the guide book. Finally, the organ with its 7,269 pipes is also noteworthy. Victory Monument In the Tiergarten, just down from the Brandenburg Gate, is the 69m high tower, topped with an angel. Needless to say, there are good views from the top ...
Berlin, Germany rayandpaul... the museum at 11:30 to find a line so long the wait probably would have been another 2 hours. naturally, I turned around and left (I hate waiting in lines). Oh yea and it was pouring ran the entire time (insert angry, fist waving emoticon here). However, the day was not all lost! Grabbed lunch and then headed for the Modern Art Museum. I'm a big dork and love this kind of thing so I really enjoyed it. Favourite part was their exhibit on the ...
Munich, Germany helento... But as we were rounding the corner to assail the last flight, something caught my eye. Through a doorway I saw what looked to be some very wild paintings. I called to the girls and had them come over as I was now already nearly inside what turned out to be a makeshift gallery. The space took up nearly the entire fourth floor of the building. It was covered from floor to ceiling with the most amazing paintings I've ever seen outside a museum. There was a small group at the ...
Berlin, Germany danschedler... displays. Then, a few of us went to the gourmet food court at KaDaWe for the most incredible array of lunch foods anyone could possibly imagine. Finally, out for dinner with the group, before going on a bizarre pub crawl that took us to what were surely Berlin's strangest nightspots. All's well that ends... weird. We all said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. No more being a sheep! Today was a free day for me here in Berlin. Unfortunately ...
