Split - quiet but good weather

... beach again as it was such a nice day.
Walked to Marjan Forest Park and hired bikes and rode around park. Some pretty steep hills but awesome views from the top of the park and heaps fun going back down.
Went back to Fife for dinner since it was so awesome and so cheap and had tripe and roast veal.
Fife is some of the best and best value food I've had in ages. Especially compared to most of the other touristy places in Split

What we thought would be a vacation...

... chilled out and went to bed.

Of course what we didn’t know is that the next day, the island was going to experience a full on storm. We were told it might rain a little that day, but raining a little was a big understatement. From the time we woke up the next morning until after we left two days later, it was POURING down rain and VERY windy. We were house-bound for 2 days. The only time we went out was one evening when the rain ...

Quick trip to Split

After our 6+ hour bus ride from the Plitvice Lakes (man was I ready to be off that bus) we arrived in Split, a southern city right on the coast of Croatia. It has its share of resort-style promenades with palm trees on the water, historical sites, and regular neighborhoods for regular Croatians. We found our hostel, the BB Turtles Hostel (a 6-bed hostel room in the basement of some lady's house). It was a nice, comfy hostel with a couple Canadian girls and two Brits ...

Croatia beaches

After we left the park, the drive down to where we are now was spectacular, although a bit different than I pictured Croatia to be-it is a lot rockier and a bit more like what we thought Greece would be like. Our second campsite was just before the town of Zadar in a town called Nin; we pulled in and this funny little man came up to us-there was no way we could say no to his smiling face even if the campsite was horrible! Luckily ...

Cruising in Croatia

... an average of 10hrs a day) mixed in with book reading, listening to my iPod, and playing various card games. Favourite on deck was Sh*thead (also known as Fish T*ts), warloads/presidents and poker. Constantly if not always you had a drink in hand - common choice was beer.

By about mid-morning we would come to our swim stop. Most times it was early morning and it was fricken cold!! The sun hadn't quite warmed you up and by the time you jumped in, you were more than happy to get ...

Hvar - Trogir

Our last day aboard the boat brought our last hours of relaxing on the deck watching the islands and beauty of Croatia pass us by. On our way to Trogir we rescued a little fishing boat stranded out at sea. We towed them back to Masclenica Bay on the island of Solta. It created some excited up on deck for us all. After a walk around the small bay of Solta we went for our final swim off the back of the boat. After ...

... café with a very calming atmosphere to allow me to chill on a couch and type away free of charge. The moment I walked in, a gorgeous girl looks at me with this very warm smile and asked what state I was from. I was just as excited to see her as she was to see me, we went back and forth in witty banter and the formalities of getting to know one another, and just a bit after I came into the shop, her, her friend and I all went out to grab a bite to ...

Sleepy Vis

... 3 more parts to the fort, further down the hill (we couldn't really have walked much further), which are actually built into the cliffside. The fort itself is now abandoned, and partly ruined. Unfortunately there is no guide or anything, so we don't know whether it was damaged during the war or just deserted after lack of use. We arrived back in Komiza, starving, so quickly got dinner, before I went back to the room to plan further about where to go. At the moment, Bosnia and Hecegovina is looking good...

Split Left

... apartment, we impulsively took the place after naming our price. After he hurriedly took our money and left, we surveyed the place... The Schutt Apartment (not to be confused with the Schrutt Condo in Vail): Eight flights of stairs up (makes Holyfield's place look easy); separate toilet, sink, and shower facilities (the only sink was in the kitchen, so that's where we had to wash up and brush our teeth); not clean (all trash we eventually discovered was swept under the ...

Rain Rain Rain

... change things, theres only me to please, so I do!! Travel through Slovenia, then enter Croatia, and reach Rijeka, and yes, you guessed it, its raining!! My plan of sailing to Dubrovnik is also dashed - the summer timetable isn't running yet, so no ferry today, so after a brief few hours in Rijeka (thats all you need), catch the next bus to Split, a mere 8 hours away. Winding, mountainous coastal roads make the journey that ...
