What was noticable about Valencia was a greater amount of closed and empty businesses, with buildings and developments seemingly half finished. I think because we were further out in the city it was more obvious than Barcelona. There is a lack of unemployment benefits for those never worked or not for many years and disability type ...

... but seven days in and I'm ready to move on to Barcelona. I think hope it'll be a little quieter. I expect crowds of course, but not jam packed into one square, shoulder to shoulder, moving as one like a school of spawning salmon.
