First day´s riding goes well

... riding from Alaska let us in. I set about packing the bike, which all in all took over an hour by the time I loaded everything on that we had carried from the UK. We left 10.30 for the 250 mile ride.

So we did successfully navigate our way out of BA, or at the least Sat Nav did. Only one hitch, in one of those tricky exits where you get the choice of 3 roads within 50 metres and have to pick the right one. I didn´t and ended up heading West instead of South ...

Villa Gesell....for a small town its bloody long!!

... it was quite nice just to take a walk around the town centre during the day, grab a long coffee, check e-mails, sit on the beach with a ice-cream, etc etc (we´ve taken a particular shine to the Tofi, Dulce de Leche Granizado ice cream, we´re joining Tofi Anonymous any day now). What was also good was that the place came alive at night, the streets were always bustling with people, the shops and restaurants were open really late, and there was a decent cinema so you were ...

Miles and miles of empty beaches

... We would laze around reading our books until we got fidgety and then we would walk along the boardwalk in one direction or the other, before heading in to town for some kind of barbecued meat for dinner! We did find a quirky little bar right on the beach called Benitos where we spent a lot of time! It's really cozy inside, with an eccentric mix of log cabin decor, harbour equipment and chandeliers. Brilliant ...

We spent a few days at this coastal town, about 5 hours south of Buenos Aires, as a stopping off point to Puerto Madryn. The weather was lovely so we had a couple of very long walks on the beach, along with a few good seafood dinners. As we were off-season the town was quiet but there were enough people there for the weekend to make it feel lively enough. A really attractive place to chill out for a couple of days.

Villa Gesell & Buenos Aires

... Our fashion points went up tremendously considering the rest of our garb is quick-drying technical clothing... A random observation - if you don´t own a pair of coverse yet, you are way behind the fashion curve. No joke, everyone in B.A. wears some type of Converse All-Stars. We wandered into one store and found other brand name shoes, like Merrill, copying the all star style! Nothing beats drinking coca cola out of a glass bottle.

Riding with the Von Traaps to Villa Gesell

... not. It went on until daylight. Needless to say we were not amused and so moved swiftly on the following morning. Villa Gesell is a beach town that is mainly visited by holidaying Argentinians from Buenos Aires - this means less people here speak English so communication is a little tricky. We are trying to speak Spanish but even when we know the words we can´t pronounce them and end up pointing to the phrase ...

Our first beach experience in South America was that of semi-dirty water and gale force wind. I`m not sure why the Buenos Airians are drawn so strongly to visit the beach here. It was still nice to be on the beach, but only if you were sheltered by the wind in one of the tents that they have set up on the beach. Though you have to pay to use one of these tents, or a lounge chair. We opted to ...

they´re shutting off the superslide

... tin foil...like if you put it on your head, you could keep the aliens from reading/controlling your thoughts...like the things you put in car windows to keep out the sun). Got stuff to make sandwiches and had a great afternoon sitting on the beach. The waves and wind are pretty strong here, but we still had fun splashing around. It´s amazing how empty the beach is...perfect weather and an empty beach, what could be better? In the towns ...
