... As this road is not treated for snow or ice it had hard packed ice patches all along the way. On a number of occasions I had to kill the engine and get my feet down and simply use the rear wheel as braking and control it by use of the clutch and just edge along at very slow speed. In situations such as this one thing one must not do is touch front brakes.

Its now getting dark and trying to see on this tiny twisty road is not good. Lucky for me much of it is dry ...

... to a castle. The food and service were wonderful and despite being stuffed from 3 weeks of traveling and eating, we managed to force down another great meal.

We are safely home and back on our lake here in Cleveland. Travel always changes one, though, and we feel changed by this trip. We loved the beauty of Lucca and Bologna -- I think we will always feel that Lucca could be our home and Bologna ...

We both woke up feeling fairly average and as the visibility was low decided to do the dreaded laundry. What a palaver! It cost about €20 when it should have been a lot less as the instructions were confusing. After a long search for the best gelato in Bolzano- which was closed we settled for an early lunch and vino. Feeling better we tackled the oldest cable car in the world (1908) on the other side of Bolzano. The views ...

    A Restful 5 Days.....

... while until the road was clear. Then up through Bellamonte, up another
gorge and on to the double chairlift (Castelir). Walked along the contour road
south east for quite a while, had lunch and returned. Sadly, there was no bus
back from the chairlift base so walked back to Bellamonte, where the bus
service was little better so we decided to walk back to the campsite via the
camp ground at Bellamonte (closing ...
