Sunday, the perfect day to just hang out. We don't have any plans for today except to make email contact with some local realtors. I send a message to a generic Coldwell Banker office explaimimg that we would like someone to show us some ex-pat areas around Heredia. Jeff writes the same to a Century 21 address.

My person writes back first and tells me they don't have any agents in Heredia and why don't we look at beach properties in Tamarindo? He never ...

Jeff spots the "Hotel America" and we pop in; surely someone here speaks English. Score! The young guy at the desk tells us how to get to the farmer's market and gives us a little mimeographed map.
We decide to walk to the farmer's market area so we will know where it is tomorrow. It's a long walk but we find the ...

A couple of women, yes, but not men. Who cares. Protecting my skin comes first. There are storm clouds ahead (this is the rainy season after all), but I won't let that slow me down either. It's not long before I reach the Heredia neighborhoods and I get off the highway to explore them. Soon I find a well ...

... put them in a dry bag for the rest of the trip which was mostly a float trip. There were a few rapids at the beginning but after that it was smooth sailing. We went 5 more miles at a much slower pace but still faster than usual. We were able to do some birdwatching and saw some scarlet macaws and other birds. We also saw the endangered spider monkeys, lots of orange iguanas, and emerald basilisk. We got to our destination about 3:30 and back to ...

... we walked 3 hours, picked up lots of information from our guide and managed to see 2 new birds on our own.

On the way up the hill Miguel, the guide, picked up two stones and started hitting them together twice to make a clicking noise, waited a few seconds and repeated the 'clicks'. He was trying to attract the White Collared Manakin but as people were noisy they didn't come. When we returned through the same area on our own we tried the stone strategy. ...
