Jane´s Costa Rican Experience

My friends told me that they thought I was brave…brave because I'm a "mature" person…not a traditional university student going abroad…I’m a wife, a mother, an early retiree from a successful professional career, and a grandmother. Personally, I don’t think I was brave. I think I was fortunate. Going to Costa Rica to study Spanish was, without a doubt, one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I ...

Keeping Busy-As far from my home here as possible

... but she told me to be quiet because she was listening to her son, who was on the phone talking about politics, and she kept making comments to the house keeper about what he was saying and that he annoyed her. Then she started talking about Tracey again and then started to rant. She's crazy. Seriously - a crazy lady. She has weird issues. Well I went back to my room and there was a 3 inch long cockroach crawling on my wall near my bed with 2 inch ...

The best hospital in the world...ever!

... have been more lovely. Ed was pretty out of it at this point and so the Doctor talked me through everything that was going on and assured me that Ed was going to get the best care possible. An ultra sound scan (Ed was still able to make jokes about him having an ultra sound before me!!) showed a build up of fluid but there was no need to drain it because it was dispersing itself. They just had to make sure that it continued to do that or draining it would have been important. A couple of ...

Heredia life

... was real. Reminder for all of my eastern standard friends and family. Costa Rica is on central time. Meaning we're an hour behind here. Also, from talking to some of you I realize that you think I'm still in the rainforest, but I'm not. I was in the rainforest when I was in Monteverde. But Heredia is much more metropolitan. No rainforest to be found here. I've posted some pictures this time, not too many.

Adios Costa Rica

Hola Senor & Senoritas I'm going to start with the weather. WET. If it's not been raining it's just stopped & if it's just stopped it's just beginning again! It's rained so much picturesque, inviting, calm streams have transformed overnight into angry, raging torrents sweeping anything that dares to stand or cross it, tourists, trees, 20,000 homes & locals all included. Even the engineering genius of the 757 ...

Preparing for the Last Day of School

... the world. Hmm, had no idea. Tomorrow is my final exam which is one long essay. Then I am supposed to give a speech at graduation but as all who know me well will understand, I am a man of very few words, so I plan on saying, "Viva El Presidente Bush" and sitting down. Every student I have seen graduate has gotten a round of applause and I want to see if can get applause ...
