... 50!! The sight of a huge tuna head was a bit freaky and made me wonder what on earth someone would do with it. After that we wandered up to the Geisha district to see typical old tea houses. There were no geishas about though so we had to use our imagination. At night a few of us headed out to sample the local nightlife. ... fruit and sushi rice. A packed day starting with the exquisite kenrokuen gardens, a must see here. Back to the hotel for an hours rest then out for tea. I did sushi, Nat & Rob went to Maccas. Walked back to the hotel 20 degrees at ...

The morning market had lots of street food, crafts and preserved food on one side and a farmers' market on the other side of the street. We tried grilled sticky rice balls on skewers with soy sauce ( both sweet and not) rice crackers and fresh tangelos that are grown in the south of Japan. Along our ...

... Chris got his architecture fix as there was an exhibition about Japanese architects response to the devastating tsunami and earthquake a few years ago. Nia loved the quirky architecture for dogs exhibit. The rain stopped for a short while whilst we looked at the exhibits in the garden then started again. The main attraction here is the Kenroku-en garden which is supposed to be one of the top 3 gardens in Japan. It's name ...
