Flying to Krabi

After the previous days worth of activities today was all about getting to Krabi. I had booked my flight the evening before and it was due to leave at 13:30 which left me more than enough time to checkout and get to the airport.

The taxi i had was a bright pink taxi and i knew roughly how much the fair should be so i arranged it in advanced, always a good idea in these countries as they will and regularly do try to screw you if they can, in the belief that all westerners are ...

"White dog shit. I haven't seen that in years!!!!"

... is an exciting cityscape where everything is slightly mental to the point of bordering on the insane. From pulling wheelies in a 1am Tuk Tuk race, to assaulting the senses in China Town, to a more sedate trip around the Grand Palace and everything in between, we had 3 days here before leaving Tim to go home and the rest of us taking a 12 hour night train to Chiang Mai in the north of the country.

Chiang Mai is a nice ...

... hotels, and found an internet shop to do a little catch up on
emails. Not too long after that, we found a decent hotel, and searched out and
found a laundry facility. That night, we came upon one of the best local night
markets we had experienced. We were the only westerners there, and the food
and fresh produce was some of the best we had tasted. It was fun walking
through and testing all kinds of local dishes.

So off we went on our scooter with map in hand... as well as directions... and drove way past Tiger cave temple.......turned around went back and finally found it. Ko Phi Phi (Phi Phi Island)

... huts on the beach were ****, just a mattress on the floor and a toilet with no flush. The shower was a piece of Alkathene pipe attached to some kind of shower head. No thanks. I reckon Katie was praying that they'd be nicer because now all she had to look forward to was the bike ride back to the office. We left Sallee with her brochures and set off on our own again. It was 4pm by the time we settled for a guest house run by a friendly looking German lady called Sacha ...

The Beach!

... Beach" from huge numbers of tourists and also from the impact of the Tsunami in 2004 when the islands sandbar was completely destroyed. After trekking around for a bit when it seemed we weren't going to find much cheaper digs we settled for the 600 Baht per night option at Harmony which was a little bit of luxury after our last hut. We hit the beach shortly after to find it completely rammed with tourists, so we just chilled out in a beach bar for a while. In ...

Thai massage.....not what I expected.

... white sand beaches we hopped on yet another moped (yeah for Teddy) and went to feed the Elephants! It was super fun to feed them, a mommy and baby, we petted there trunks and it was the creepiest thing we had ever felt. They were very excited about the fruit treats. Thailand is known for its massages, and every 3 feet there is someone offering you a massage and they are cheap. So I decide to get a beach side thai massage and ...

Colonel Hathi's March

We were sorry to leave ultra-mellow Koh Lanta, although we had run out of cash and were a long way from an ATM - landed in Krabi with about 2 quid equivalent between us! We had a great time though and did actually manage to tear ourselves away from the beach for a hot sweaty walk to a nearby bit of jungle. Here we were delighted to encounter an elephant trekking operation, four splendid pachyderms providing rides. Didn't get on board as it was just too hot, but were reduced to ...
