18th Nov: Raining today, have a wander around and almost brave the cinema but we'll freeze without hoodies. Not sure why cinemas in hot countries are set at sub-zero temperatures. ... coast going through each town and past each beach. but the public bus doesn't use the road, they go inland to one destination at a time so you either use the bus more or hire a taxi. they also stop running at 5 so you are more apt to need a taxi. when we arrived in phuket there was a desk of taxi drivers asking to take us to town (2 KM) for 400 TBH which is about the same amount we spend on accommodation. it would be like a taxi driver ...
... around in the hut roof but as it was pitch black we had no idea where they were exactly. Soon after this came a huge thunderstorm, the thunder was so loud and right above us. It carried on for ages and was pretty scary. We spent the rest of the night trying to get some sleep and as it got to dawn we thought we might get an hour or two but no, then came the resident cockerel! café all day the rain eased off and we decided to go out to a few bars, as we
were practically living inside the Irish bar…that's how close our new hotel was
to it. We got there and hit the buckets; it was a cool bar with writing all
over the walls and everyone having a boogie.
