Just What I Was Looking For

... despite the UN resolution.

Depending on who you ask, each side was responsible for this or that atrocity and crime and I will just leave it at that. Turkey eventually invaded the island and took the northern third of it as its own territory all the way up to the Green Line. There was almost no passage across it for either side until 2003 when Greek Cypriots were finally allowed limited access. European Union pressures have opened it up to ...

Nicosia or Bust

... about as foreign to me as the Bulgarian countryside down below. While waiting for the door to close, I wasn't subjected to a barrage of prerecorded advertising over the PA or ads plastered to the overhead bins. Rather than hawking smokeless cigarettes and two for one vodkas like on Ryanair, these flight attendants just came through quietly and handed out lunch. Whether on Ryanair, EasyJet or Aegean, it's been awesome having confirmed tickets. It's the ...

Where Shopping is a Pleasure

Where Shopping is a Pleasure. Isn't that Publix's slogan? I found a grocery store called Billa where shopping may not be such a pleasure but their checkout stand can put you on a road to some. Now visualize the g rated checkout stand at Publix. All the "racy" tabloids are covered up because God forbid should someone steal a glance at Britney Spears sans panties. Besides, our magazines but a big black rectangle over anything worth looking ...

The day before, the day before we leave

All packing and cleaning is underway !!! Only 36 or so hours left before we hit the tarmac at Larnaca !! Just need to get the dog wormed and de-flead (not that he has them !), groomed and then buy him a travel box for the flight !

Fingers crossed all our accommodation arrangements have been made for Athens and Samothraki !

Cross-Country

... all just fit and seemed perfect. On the return to Paphos we spotted
the spot where Aphrodite was born from the sea and her temple up on a
cliff. It was a very long day but one filled with several
interesting sites. I almost forgot...in Larnaka we happened upon the
church of St.. Lazarus where he was finally laid to rest.

Turkey..Yes, Turkey

Saturday, July 4th,
2009—Nicosia
The drive up to the capitol city of
Nicosia was uneventful and our attempts at locating the hotel were
good but we ultimately had to park and find tourist information to
assist. Even after that we had a bit of trouble but thanks to a good
navigator we found the hotel, checked in and headed back into the
walled city for lunch. After lunch, we just started to wander around
and we took pictures of the winding ...

Cyprus

... The minarets climbing into the blue sky will let you know you have arrived in Turkish Cyprus. The local currency is the Turkish Lira but don't panic as Euros are widley accepted too. Our visit made for an intresting few hours exploring the labyrinth of small lanes and alleys but just make sure you know how to get back to the border crossing! Whilst Cyprus is an island much celebrated by tourists, who return time after time, there is a dark ...

Its not longer Greeks or Turks that run this place

Spent a week in a resort hotel in the city of Limmosal. Toured the entire island except for the Turkish portion on the top third of Cyprus.

Most of the tourist signs are in 1) Greek 2) Russian and last but not least 3) English.

This ...

Being Good

Up early again, well actually, these early mornings are killing me. Yes I am getting up at 08:00, but my body, the London one that is, states that it is actually 06:00, and without a coffee hit, life isn't the easiest, even though it's meant to be, but I do manage to struggle through it. Now back to the story Larnaka With the fall of the North, the Cypriots decided that they needed a new second largest city, and Larnaka was told to get with the program, you are now our ...

Cyprus - island under construction

... address and told to make enquiries. Sounds like an adventure to me I thought, I'll give it a go. Without thinking twice I hoofed it down to Limasol in next to no time, thanks to a kind trucker who flagged me down and offered a lift. With bike chucked into the back the last half of the journey was spent hammering down the motorway at 124Km/h, over and under taking taking, texting on one phone while ...
