Anafartalar Caddesi no 600 Izmir, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey, 35230, 489-2750
I felt asleep before 630 last evening, and got up at 5 this morning. What a sound sleep! And an amazing new noon arose outside my window. The prayer sound made the context really turkish.

Our lunch was at a resort with a lake. There were no other customers but us, the participants at the conference. It cost 20 lira, so maybe too expensive for local people.

Dinner was lighter, but i still couldn't finish it.
Izmir, Turkish Aegean Coast, Turkey mrduby... away as I found out after inquiry at the campus near the hotel. Surprisingly the university security staffs do not speak English. They're nervous talking to me! Haha, being a total foreigner in a distant country surely is an interesting experience. Youngsters should all try to do this. Anyway I decided to just walk around the downtown, Alcanti area to learn about local life. I assume once i start my conference tomorrow I'd have no time to do that. (It turned out ...

Izmir, Izmir, Turkey izmirklimaWalked to the beach via some more of the roman ruins. The beach is good; shingle but with very clear water. Its also incredibly hot so I take a quick dip and realise I've forgotten my towel. The heat is debilitating so I head back to the hostel. And spend the rest of the day snoozing or on the net. In the evening a party of 18 american ...
Izmir, Turkey i_could_walk... passed surprisingly quickly with a slow procession of beers although the final bill was a substantial 20lire. The bar was surprisingly run on a credit basis; you were assigned a number and ordered with that number. Its a useful system because no-one needs to find lots of small change and is rather civilised. The problem is that its easy to run up a bill especially as the beer's were small and £2 each. I suspect that they make much of their ...
Izmir, Turkey i_could_walkThe end of the Turkish Extravaganza is now. Joe and I will be heading on a very early plane ride to Berlin tomorrow. We took another fantastic bus ride through the Turkish countryside to Izmir, Turkey's third largest city. When we arrived, we had a pretty long taxi ride from the bus station to the hotel located in the city center. Another rainy day, unfortunately. Not much to report, Joe and I went to a huge bazaar filled with locals buying ...
Izmir, Turkey evafordhamI finally left Mustafapasa on the 2nd June at 4pm. I was sad to leave and had been saying my goodbyes for two days. 4 hours later I had great fun looking for a place to stay in a little place called Golcuk. I'd been thinking about pulling into one of the scrub fields bordering the road as I approached in the twilight. When I reached town I realised it was probably best to keep moving. Not pretty. I took a slip dirt-track leaving town and passed the Jandarma (military police) who, as ...
Izmir, Turkey michael_bromby... was supposed to have lived after the crucifixion. The house was identified by a 17th century german nun who had never left Germany... and it is clearly Mediaeval. Tim and Jeremy wouldn't waste time on it on the grounds that the Virgin Mary had obviously never been near it. Funny how happily they went to the Temple of Artemis and the oracle, though... apparently mythology is ok if it is old enough. (basically- yes. Although where someone 'holy ...
Izmir, Turkey dynamo... All of us occupied places on the deck & enjoyed the scenic beauty of deep blue Marmara. At about 6 PM we all moved into modern & spacious sitting room & had tea there. We stayed in for quite sometime & played cards at length. Dinner was served at 9 PM as we preferred to join the second batch at that time. After dinner e went in the Music room & the session started at 10 o'clock sharp. We all enjoyed the musical after diner time & stayed there till midnight.
