... arrived in Crete we drove to Agios Nikolaos. Our apartment was very big and it had a really great pool as well. On our first day we walked around the town of Agios Nikolaos. We went to the Lake which is in town. The water in the Marina was very clear with lots of fish. I got new thongs because I broke my other ones.

The drive west along the southern coast from Matala towards Myrtos and Irapatra took us over increasingly mountainous terrain with more cliff-hugging switchbacks and rocky panoramas leading down to the coast much like the less traveled northern road in Maui from Kahalui to Lahaina (minus the one lane roads). The towns and villages were even built along the downward sloping ridge lines. Until finally the ...

After a wet beginning to 2014 in the UK we returned to Kerenne on 9 April. Philippa travelled to Bristol before we flew out together to Chania and then by bus to Aghios Nikolaos the next day after a night in a hotel. It was a poignant return as this was the first time Philippa had been aboard Maņana since the unexpected death of her husband Dave.
