    Monday 10th November

Quiet day today – we hung around Ambra doing financial business and organizing returning our car in a couple of weeks. We also walked down to Pratesi, which is a shoe outlet, and I bought some nice 'sandals' and a matching bag – both nice leather in tan. Good prices! Lunch was at home and after that we drove into Montevarchi – initially to Pradha again – to have a look if there was anything affordable with 50% ...

... This was set high up in the Tuscan hills and had magnificent views. We had to hang around for a while until a volunteer guide arrived to show us around. The coatings on both the lemon chicken and sweet and sour were much lighter than they serve at ...

... were actually heading to a restaurant that had been recommended to us by Stefano, who's apartment we we renting, but when we got there it had a 20 minute wait, so we ended up at the one next door which turned out to be really good. We then headed back to the apartment for a good nights sleep before our day of sightseeing in Florence. The boys were very excited about seeing all the "willy statues" as they call them which are famously all over ...

... shared a tripe dish (which reminded me of seeing tripe in my grandma’s fridge many years ago) and an eggplant milanese. As we got closer to the bone, and the meat became rarer, it was whisked off the table, cooked a little more and then thrown back on the table hot and delicious. It was as much an experience as eating a meal. Sweets were a variety of dishes that I weren’t familiar with but I had what they call vino santo, which is a glass ...
