    So I made sure not to miss the opportunity to attend the Greek night, along with my companion.

    I can't help but mention that the dinner buffet at the hotel was excellent, offering Greek traditional plates which we enjoyed in the company of a bottle of selected Greek wine.

    ... from our apartment we have a great beach, nice for swimming. The water is admittedly cool by Muscat standards but even I have had a good long swim. The area is very nice, good beaches, lots of restaurants and bars but obviously aimed a families rather than the 'young' crowd. Interestingly lots of Bulgarian and Rumanian cars here and I would agree a better choice than the Black Sea. The prices are 'European' though and twice as much as we paid in ...

    Bulgaria has beautiful countryside but I found the towns depressing, all those rotting concrete blocks of apartments and every pavement broken and derelict. The government must be both corrupt and incompetent and it's a tough burden for the population. There has been a massive brain drain, it's the only European country where the population is decreasing. ...
