... cannot imagine the size.
no luck with the weather and Matterhorn still in hiding I walked even further
on towards what i believe is Mount Rose where a cable car takes people to its
did plan on walking the whole way there and perhaps take the cable car back
down but looking and walking in these massive mountains are two totally
different things. It might only look a short walk but in total and looking at
the maps its a mighty ...
... outside and sure enough it is freezing but as its a long walk up the mountain to Belvedere I am soon puffing and burning up energy and keeping warm.
Back on the bike and off down the great roads of the Furka pass. There in the valley and along the edge of the opposite mountain runs an incredible railway where the Glacier express trains run. The whole way down the pass I kept checking for trains and not a single one came along. However as soon as I left the pass at Gletsch and ...

... you can see 29 four thousand metre high mountains laden with snow. The Cornier Glacier is the second longest ice stream of the Alps, and is almost right at your feet. And the views are just "awesomely fantastic". Because we all have fallen in love with the Matterhorn, we spent quite a lot of time photographing the mountain from every vantage point. Back down to Zermatt, a quick bite of lunch and we were once again on the move, this time to Klein Matterhorn ...
... I was keen to get back to see my family room. Wow, what a
set up just for little old me! Have a look at the photos.
For dinner I followed the hotel receptionist’s
recommendation and went down to try a typical Swiss restaurant. It was full,
which maybe was fortunate as the prices were astronomical compared to Oz. No
main course was less than CH40.00 or $A 48.00 and most of them were lamb. If you
wanted beef, it was even more expensive.
