Nice

Nice is the capital of the Riviera and the beautiful Cote d Azur. When people speak of ¨taking the South of France option¨ when terminally ill you can see why. We had visited Nice for 5 days in 1999 but it will always be a great place to visit. The food is amazing and hours can be idled away walking along the promenade of the Bay of Angels and exploring the old city. We stayed in the same hotel as last time, the Antares, very noisy as it is opposite the railway station, but cheap, clean and c...

Nice Times

Ok so after my nature retreat in the Alps, it was off to very different pastures... the sunshine, the glamour, and the dirtiness of Nice. The drive was pretty stunning, driving through the Gotthard Pass, which was rather impressive and helps pass the time on 10 hour bus rides. Arrived in Nice around 7pm where it was strikingly hot (I better get used to it) and full of hustle and bustle - a stark contrast to the cleanliness and efficient order of Switzerland. However Nice was actually nicer (e...

Nice Nice

In the heart of the French Riviera lies Nice a smallish city with a population of approximately 350,000 people. The highlight of Nice definitely seems to be its long stretches of pebbled beaches filled with sun lovers. The beaches are periodically divided into either public stretches or cordoned off sections where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas and by mid day it seems there is not an uncovered pebble on the beach. On the first day, right after dropping off our bags we headed straight...

2 hours in Monaco

ok, it was more "collecting a new country" than being really interested in Monaco. Strange, when you go there from Nice airport by bus it costs you 18 € one way, when you go from Nice bus terminal it costs 1 € one way. Monaco is a very clean city. I have never seen so many big and expensive cars. I saw the casino and the castle. Nice, but not spectacular.

Nice

I know I always write the same...great weather, such a nice city, good food....but I have to say that Nice was a (very) big surprise for me, I can say that it is my favourite city in Europe (ok, number 2 after Lisbon). You have the mountains, the Cote d´Azur (when you see the water you know why the name is Cote d´Azur), the market with fresh vegetables, fruits, honey, oil, soap, you have great restaurants ...

Less than 4 weeks to go.....

... upon me it feels very strange and somewhat daunting. But to my knowledge no one has ever died from teaching children so I am sure I will survive.... My Amazon book order should arrive soon to inspire me. I am really looking forward to discovering the 100 things you can do with a paper plate. Life is never going to be the same!!

More when I start travelling...

Boring drive day so here is life in Scooby

... we still would not be being tourists until 10am at the earliest. Because of our limited space Kim has become much more aware of the amount of rubbish we throw away as we have to take out the trash after every meal. Upside to Campervaning... the freedom is great. You can go to all of the little villages which are so difficult to get to when your backpacking. You're not tied to accommodation bookings or having to hunt out hostels on arrival to your destination. And you ...

Day Spas, 4 Stars (but no celebs) and Pebbley Bums

... the french 'boules', which is where lawn bowling originated from. One guy had a very interesting style of chucking his ball up into the air and it would magically land in the right spot and knock out the opponent's ball. We sampled some delicious macaroon dessert thingies, which the new Lindt chocolate store in Chaddy sells and they call them 'delice'. Well, whatever they were, they were awesome, the lady at the store cut up a whole lot and gave us mini taste tests, as there were many ...

Where's our *&$%ing luggage AirFrance?

... arrival. We both had a few things to wear in our carry on bags. (Julie was smart enough to pack a bit more than me) We spent a night walking around the harbor, admiring the yachts and the frequent fancy cars driving by. So many Ferrari, Bentleys, Lamborghini's, Rolls Royce, etc. We found a cute little restaurant and had a great dinner and went back to our room hoping our bags would be there.......
