Still here

We are just enjoying the view from our campsite and riding through town and checking out the fishing boats coming in. Glen's boat is still not ready, but think it will be tomorrow. We went over to Ellison Point where many people fish along the bay for pink salmon. You can ...

Sooooo Beautiful

... rv park's wi-fi that is the problem. I am sitting in front of the Totem Pole Hotel connected with their wi-fi. The weather is beautiful and it is 68 degrees. We bought a little smoked salmon from the fish hatchery and it sure is delicious. Do have cable TV thank goodness. Bought tickets to take the glacier tour tomorrow so I should have some good pictures for you.

Later
Diane

Valdez - July 16-22
Valdez is a beautiful location right on the water surrounded by mountains with a harbor full of boats—a fisherman's dream! We had great mountain views from the window of the RV. The first few days were very cloudy; then we had rain the rest of the time; just a light sprinkle on and off. It amazes us that these dreary days can produce such stunning views of the clouds ...

VALDEZ -

... 1897-98 as a port of entry for gold seekers bound for the Klondike goldfields. Thousands of stampeders arrived in Valdez to follow the all American Route to the Eagle mining district in Alaska's interior, and from there up the Yucon River to Dawson City and the Klondike. The Valdez trail was an especially dangerous route, the first part of it leading over Valdez Glacier, where the early stampeders faced dangerous ...

Update....

... be our celebration!) So the weather has been interrupting with our plans a bit! Last Glacier Bay day (7th Sept) there was a special staff discount night in the Lotus Spa, so I got a facial and had an Iothermie treatment done. It was great! Andrew got his hair cut and most of the other performers either got massages or facials too! I love staff special days! So my big exciting news (for me anyway) is that Andrew bought me a gorgeous, wonderful ring which we ...

An Alaskan Silver lining

... silver salmon... YUM! We thought it would prove an excellent treat to finish off our Alaskan adventure, especially considering that Kirilee had never really been fishing in her life. Valdez is of course famous for the terrible Exxon Valdez oil spill where an Exxon oil tanker ran aground and spewed out hundreds of thousands of barrels of crude oil into Price William Sound, one of the most pristine natural waterways and wildlife areas in all Alaska. All that ...

Prince William Sound Boat Trip

What a beautiful day! We awoke to clearing skies and no rain. Our trip started at 10 am and we probably had the best weather on the trip so far. We found a seat on the upper deck of the boat and a nice young couple from the Netherlands sat across from us. The pictures will tell the story of our cruise around the sound. We visited two glaciers, Columbia and Meares. We could only get up to about 9 miles from the Columbia Glacier as the icebergs pose ...

Day 52 Valdez

... boat heading his way. From there on it became a simple sit and get sleepy and doze if possible through the less than smooth ride. We arrive at a spot Dave had marked on his GPS and he dropped the anchor and proceeded to set us up. How good is this fishing? The skipper sets the rods and baits the hooks, gives us a demonstration and we pick a spot and we are fishing. It was a little chilly and overcast, but the warm clothing purchased early was put to good use and the cold didn't ...

Day 51 Alaska Valdez

... have saved some for you). The amount of salmon we have in the freezer would be at least $30 at home, with the free feed and the total cost for the park for 2 days of $60, we figure we are doing ok. Aint life Grand? Yet we reckon we deserve it, you would have to agree. Since dinner we have managed to settle in and catch up with the emails and a couple of phone calls. Earnie read about his rafting trip and has now cancelled the one the woman was ...
