Rethymnon & Phaestos
Today we spent the morning in Rethymnon, a lovely town about 60km East of Heraklion. We like Rethymnon way more than Heraklion. There is a lovely market in the old town and a beautiful little harbour area whit loads of restaurants by the water. Highly recommended!!! Coastal Road to Panormo

Needless to say the trip back with Chris and Daniela is much more successful and we find the hotel first time, and arrive back just in time for a couple of aperitifs and dinner in the main restaurant, which is a buffet style affair, as the only other restaurant open tonight was the Italian :-) Off to bed early as looking forward to some more open top driving across the island to the quieter south ...

... brought the waste out of the city. It was interesting that the people that lived here were peaceful - they have no evidence of an army or weapons. Also, they did not have slaves like most other peoples at this time, and men and women were seen as equals. Art found around the palace was high quality/advanced - frescos, pottery, figurines, jewelry, clothing. After the palace tour we headed west for the village of Angoia and got lost, we were lost several times along the way. ...
