Both road and rail twist and turn the whole way up. Both must have crossed each other at least 12 times. Note from Val: Today we took a guided tour into the mountains east of the town of Obergurgl (up the Gaisbergferner glacier valley) to search for garnets. We were well equipped for the task, with our hammer and chisel borrowed from our hotel.
