After living in Queensland for the last few years, the time is now approaching where I will set off again and explore more of this incredible continent . I'll kick off with a visit to my own country of birth, Ireland, for the Christmas season. After much needed time with family and friends, it will be back to Oz in January to start again.

From the 16th January it will be time to don the backpack ...

Met some great people working there...Hayley , Bex , Lou!! Love them!! Bex AKA Smack Rat is stalking me and i will be staying in the same hotel as her in Phuket for the week i am there!! CANT WAIT!!!

Also met Shane (who was Andrews cousin) He was awesome and became my personal tour guide and drinking buddy. We went to bbqs at his friends houses who were also ...

... Through the city the Brisbane river flows and one bridge after another strecthces over the river. All the bridges have different designs and its own caracter. One way to see the city is also by the citycat ferries which criss crosses over the river along all the city. I did that one evening when it was dark and it was quite facinating to see the city with all its lights.

But.... I have been to a museum and learnt a little about ...

Then Jesse and I did extreme camping and 4WD on Fraser Island for 3 days 2 nights. Fraser is the world's largest sand island and is the only place where a rainforest grows directly out of the sand. Camping was extreme (making your own meals with few ...

That day, to keep our minds busy, Brian and I did all the things we didn't get to do around Brisbane with them. First though, we set up our campervan rental for the next day. We had to go from really, comfy, clean hotel back to the budget backpackers. It wasn't so bad but we prefer to stay with Elaine and Susan. So, after ...

... to go to the legendary Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. On the free bus there we got to watch the man in action on DVD as he wrestled crocs, picked up killer snakes, ran up trees up after monkeys and be generally clinically insane. The zoo has some amazing animals and they are all really well looked after. Saw all sorts of Aussie critters like kangaroo's (which are so tame I got to ruffle one behind the ears!) crocs, (which I obviously didn't ruffle) koala's ...

... Mountains and Sydney, we started the two day drive back up to Brisbane. I think we reached a new low when we were looking for a holiday park on the first night. Instead of asking basic questions like, "Do you have any cabins available?" or "What is your rate?" Tracy led with, "Do you get Channel 9 here?" You see, we wanted to keep up our long-standing tradition of watching the Academy Awards together and making fun of some of the ...

... year's resolutions, many definitelly looked like it :-). Having witnessed this decadent spectacle, we stopped at the first bar we found (and later the second bar too!) and had a few drinks before going home. Speaking of new year's resolutions, neither of us have touched a cigarette since January 2nd when we ran out of the cheap cigarettes we brought from Vietnam (we are writing in February, and still holding on... it's been hard for Nuno!). ... the next day which was a shame as it was our last chance to meet up with them. Anyway, I had my inevitable problems with my shoes and had to take them off. I shouldn't admit this in print, but I ended up wearing Simon's shoes (note I was wearing a dress) and he walked down the streets in his socks until we got to a place that we wanted to drink in, when we swiftly changed back!
